I was having a discussion with msstock earlier and we got on the subject of monthly visits and wondered why the BSC never discussed theirs!  My question - what do you think each of the BSC members were like on their periods... I mean MENSTRUAL CYCLES? Kristy - I think that Kristy would always be grossed out by her period. Either that or she'd discuss it at the lunch table while eating. I could so hear her... "Ewww, this cranberry sauce looks like...." or something! Mary Anne - she would be very secretive about her and blush when it's mentioned. Forbidden territory for her! Stacey - Stacey would think she was oh so sophisticated for GETTING HER PERIOD! She would also be the first BSC member to end up pregnant. Claudia - I'm not so sure... she seems like she would be the big PMSing drama queen along with Stacey. She would also use it as an excuse to eat more chocolate! Haha, I'm not trying to be gross, but I thought this would be hilarious and interesting to discuss! ;D |

I can totally see Kristy sitting there at the lunch table making gross jokes about her period.
Mary Anne would totally be shy about hers!
I can see Claudia being such a b*tch while she is pmsing.
I can see Mallory waiting around in her room waiting to get her period, wanting to be grown up and 13!

Hehe, I agree about Mallory! I forgot Dawn!
I think Dawn would be laid back about the period part, but she'd always be complaining about how "sanitary napkins' and tampons are bad for the environment!

I definitely see Dawn acting like that! She would probably start a campaign to use different products for periods...although what I don't want to know.

^ Maybe washable, reusable pads or something? ;D LMAO. Today, she could just use a Diva Cup or something of that sort.

In a few years, I can picture Karen pretending to get her period because she thinks everyone has it and wants to seem older. She's the youngest in her grade, so she'd probably be one of the later ones to get it in her grade, and she'd hate being the last.

we had a big push for environmentally-friendly menstrual products at my boarding school.
mallory would definitely have some kind of embarrassing situation with hers.

I don't know which of these were funnier: Kristy running out of the house yelling about buying pads, or Mallory waiting in her room for her period to come.
Claudia can be pretty laid back about some things, this being one of them, but I can totally see per being a b*tch when she's PMS-ing.
Abby? She'll take it in stride, but make gross jokes about it all the time.

Dawn would probably use a Diva Cup. I've also seen reusable pads, so maybe she'd use those instead.

I'm curious about Jessi. We know she's been dancing for awhile and pretty serious about her dancing. Could she be one of those girls who get their first period at 16?

The Diva Cup sounds interesting, but it seems impractical if you're using a public restroom. But yeah, I can totally see Dawn using that or some other sort of recyclable product.
Speaking of Jessi, I wonder how her dancing would be affected once her body starts changing (breasts, hips, center of gravity).

I couldn't really see Kristy yelling about having to go buy pads; she seems secretive and embarrassed about girly things, e.g. her morning makeover in Snowbound.

She would be like Margaret in that painful Are You There God, It's Me Margaret book and walk around for months with pads on for "practice" ;D. I could see Jessi getting it late because of her dancing and Dawn using the Diva Cup. Btw, there's actually such a thing as reusable pads? To quote the insulin part in chapter 2, EW! Gross! I would never do that especially since I don't have, how do you say this, a "light" cycle ;D. |

Yeah, reusable pads, cups, sea sponges...some women just use rolled up cotton baby socks. Some women report their flow gets lighter when using cloth pads. I think Dawn would go this route as well as her California friends, I think they would use organic cotton pads or make their own, or use sea sponges or something.
I agree with everything said thus far, I also think that Kristy would be secretive since she seems uncomfortable with...feminine experiences.
Lunapads! It just came to me. There are other brands but just can't remember them.
