Since we know the BSC is in Fairfield, I wonder if Stoneybrook looks like Westport or Newtown or any real place nearby.

Since we know the BSC is in Fairfield, I wonder if Stoneybrook looks like Westport or Newtown or any real place nearby. It might...I picture Stoneybrook as a large New England town, maybe 70,000 to 80,000 people. I sometimes think of the 1980s song Life in a Northern Town when I read the BSC books. The BSC are definitely northerners all the way.

I always pictured Stoneybrook smaller then that. Maybe around 40-60 thousand at most. I’m looking at a map of CT and it’s likely Darien which has a smaller population of around 21,000.
Although Ann is channeling her childhood in Princeton most of the time. I wonder why they just couldn’t make it NJ to begin with?

I think Ann likes Connecticut...anyway, it's not always necessary for authors to always write their exact childhood city or town. Still, it might have been intriguing if the BSC series was set in Newark, New Jersey like part of the Karate Kid series. 😁😁😁 Judy Blume grew up in a suburb in New Jersey, but often wrote about characters in New York City or a large town in Connecticut. I say Stoneybrook is about 70,000. Also, Stoneybrook is just an hour or so away from New York City, so Stoneybrook is no one-horse town in the middle of nowhere. Did you read Mary Anne's Portrait where she visits her grandmum in Iowa? In it, Mary Anne has a bit of culture shock because Verna's town is truly a small town of about 20,000. Mary Anne has a bit of trouble adjusting to a place where everyone knows everyone and where there is only one grammar school, one middle school and one high school and one shopping center and one theater. Such a small town is quite alien to her and also, she's overwhelmed at Verna's friends treating her like a curiosity.

I still think 70 is too much, I like the middle of 50 myself. Of course it’s not a one horse town, from my understand New England is too densely populated to have less then 20 aside from the islands.
I though Maynard was smaller then 20 lol, it felt a lot smaller.

Good, glad you see it...so true, New England is densely populated. I've been there, so I'm familiar with New England. New England is wonderful...I love the north. Which is why I laugh and find it hilarious when fanfics try to depict Stoneybrook as a one-horse town in the middle of nowhere. Even worse are the fanfics that depict Stoneybrook as akin to redneck country. I thought Maynard was smaller then 20 lol, it felt a lot smaller. Me too!!! Maybe even as low as 10,000. Mary Anne sure had that culture shock...even Verna once jokes that if you blinked, you'd pass Maynard without realizing it. 😅😅😅

What kind of fics are doing that? I mean I’ve never been to New England (yet anyway), and it seems like an area that has a lot of people crowded.
Probably as low as 5 lol.

Not much, except a sort of spoofy one about the BSC hiring a wad of other classmates they barely know... www.fanfiction.net/s/13834341/5/Slice-of-LifePerhaps I should edit and revise my own stories about the BSC in high school, a four-story series titled The BSC Legacy.

Tell her to keep up the great work...her story is funny and interesting! 😅😅😅 I also started a crossover Sweet Valley/BSC story. A couple of dozen Sweet Valley High students visit Stoneybrook High...the Wakefiend twins are in 11th grade and the senior BSC is in 9th grade...and hilarity ensues with some interesting clashes.

Interesting, I’ve only read one sweet valley book so I can’t imagine how that would go,

Book 8.
Speaking of stoneybrook, has anyone noticed that there’s three neighborhoods? The super rich, the rich, and everyone else. Is there another side of town we haven’t seen yet?
