Some of us watch the 16 and Pregnants and Teen Moms on MTV. A lot of the names the girls give their babies (I just saw the one with Nova Star) and baby names just in general are getting more and more out there these days. Which BSCers do you think would go the traditional route and which would go wacky? Any examples of what you could see them using?
I'll have to think of specific names later, but I think Kristy, Stacey, Mallory, Jessi, Shannon and Logan would do fairly normal names. Claudia, Abby, Dawn and Mary Anne might come up with questionable ones.

I don't think Mary Anne would be too out there. The names she liked in 2 Many Babies were fairly tame. Bea, Adele, Charity, Tara, etc. I said it in another thread but I could see her wanting to use the names Alma and Dawn. If Kristy had boys, maybe after her brothers. Claudia -- Mimi.

^Sparklymouse, I agree on your "fairly normal name" crew. Except, possibly for Stacey. Depending where she was in life when she had her child, I could totally see her giving it a name she thought of as gamorous or Claud-inspired. Maybe Jasmine or Autumn. Lol, so I took the extreme (new to old) to the other in those choices! It's tricky to pick a specific name (for any of the girls' kids) because (surprise, surprise) of "time" in Stoneybrook. I don't mean their ages. I mean the sometimes very odd fact that Ann and Co wrote the girls like they were growing up in the 60's instead of the 80's. I'll have to put my thinking cap on, too. ETA: Maybe because of her love of guide books, but can't you see MA fretting over the pages of a baby name book?

I think Dawn and Claudia would give them out there names but in different ways, I think Dawn's would be like Breeze and Rainbow (possibly Rainbeaux. Yes there was a girl from my school who had that name) or Wind. She could go more traditional though, with something like Willow. I think that Claud would have gone for traditional names but spelt them alternatively like Olyvia or Hayli. I can only think of girls names at the moment I think Kristy, Shannon, Logan, Jessi and Mary Anne would go quite traditional or at least 'normal', I think Mary Anne would go for older names like Audrey (after Audrey Hepburn) Or Faye (after Faye Dunnaway) because she seemed to like those names in Summer Vacation. I think the others would just be very traditional names like Sarah, Brittany, Leah, Elise, Rose. IU'm not trying to offend anyone by saying normal, I'm just meaning names that you'd be able to find a handful of students with at most school, sorry if it sounded rude. I think Mallory's might be after book characters or authors or horses or something, but she also might go traditional like the others. I don't see her going with any very different names. Stacey I think might go for trendier names but not Moon Unit levels of ridiculousness names, like Mia and Ruby (two of the most popular baby names in Australia this year)

She wouldn't even do it on purpose, lol. I only thought Mary Anne would go strange in a romantic sort of way. Like Jessica Alba's kids are Honor and Haven. Not the worst names ever, but you're still like "eh, why?" Or else she would name all of her kids Alma whether they were girls or boys. Yes, absolutely. She would be the one to pick names specifically for what they meant.

I could see her giving her kids names like Honor and that sort of stuff but for me that's more of a Dawn thing, of course Dawn being Dawn would take it to extremes and name her kids Freedom, Peace and Love and not things that would be actual names. On second though I could also see Dawn doing the foreign language thing (where a name means something like peace, honour or pride in a foreign language so they name their kids that) The scary thing about the Mary Anne thing is that she actually would

Ah, good point about Dawn, bookwormv1. She is used to names like Sunshine, Clover, and Daffodil, after all. Maybe an ocean-related name since she loves the beach so much.

I agree with Dawn and Claudia having the most "out-there" names. Dawn because she's been inspired by names like Sunshine, Daffodil & Clover (as booboo mentioned). Claudia because I see her perhaps picking a traditional Japanese name, maybe honoring Mimi.
I think Stacey would pick a "trendy" name like Parker or Aiden or something similar. Mary Anne I see picking "Ann-like" names like Ann, Jane, or Alma (after her Mom).

I pretty much agree about Mary Anne, Claudia and Dawn. I think Kristy would pick pretty common names, Stacey would choose trendy, glamorous names (Imogene anyone? It means 'in the image of her mother', lol), mallory wouldn't be able to find any names her family hasn't already taken, and not sure about Jessi!

I think Claudia would love the "creative" spellings of some names today!

Somehow I missed ever seeing this thread. I have probably just put way too much thought into this.
I think Kristy would give her daughters unisex or traditionally masculine names. I could see her with daughters named Reece and Parker.
There's a mention in one of the books (2 many babies, maybe?) that Mary Anne likes to look at birth announcements in the newspaper to see if any babies have been given especially nice or especially weird names. I think she'd take great care in choosing names, and probably use family names for middles. I don't think she'd go for anything too out there, but possibly slightly old fashioned. Maybe flower names like Lily or Rose for a girl, and classics like Thomas or Robert for boys.
Mallory would pick names she thought were cool, but they'd be the baby name equivalent of sparkly sweatshirts. Names that would be very dated to a specific time frame, so you'd almost be able to guess her kids' birth years by hearing their names. Miley for a girl, maybe, or Renesmee.
I'm going to go against the grain and say Dawn's kids would have clunky, old-fashioned hipster names, like Murray or Jasper for a boy or Hazel or Ruth for a girl. It seems to fit with the baby-wearing, cloth diapering, worried about carbon footprint and casually mentioning that the baby's blanket is organic cotton kind of mother I think Dawn would be.
Claudia I think would feel pressured to use conservative names to please her parents, but would go with her heart in the end and have kids named Harley and Ransom.
Abby would use fairly classic names. Jessi's baby would have a name with Eastern European roots, to go along with her love of classical Russian ballet. Mikhail for a boy, perhaps, or Iliana for a girl. I don't really have a good idea what Stacey would do. Her kids could be named Jedediah and Margaret or Blayden and Zilla or anything in between and it wouldn't surprise me.

I could see Mary Anne choosing really traditional, feminine names for her daughters. Think Elizabeth, Amanda, Samantha, etc. Not sure what she'd do for boys. I could see Stacey going trendy, like many of you, and giving boys' names to her girls. I can also see her going the creative spelling route for all her kids.
