^ didn't the exact same thing happen in MA's portrait, where she didn't want to go to dance lessons? the recycling annoys me.

^ Yeah, Mary Anne didn't want to go to dance lessons because of her shyness. But I should add that she went to the lessons because she never told Richard.

The dance lessons for Mary Anne was so out of character. Thanks ghost writers! Another boo-boo in that book is something about how Mary Anne would always cry in class when her dad talked to her about how if she behaves no one will yell at her. I wonder if she had anxiety and told no one.
The dance class skipping was fun too, I wanted all the candy and ice cream LOL and I was laughing at their jokes about Randal Peterson the third

Just read this one the other day and actually liked it. I'm NOT a fan of NYC and usually hurt myself rolling my eyes at Stacey going on about how perfect the city is, and this was no different... but that's my issue, not the book's. And I must have been the weirdest kid ever because I'd have loved ballroom dancing lessons. It reminded me of the episode of Leave it to Beaver where Beaver and Larry skip their ballroom dance classes and end up messing up their good clothes while riding a horse, lol.
And it's amazing how much snob Laine packed into her body even at such a young age. Don't like her. Their friendship was really cute in this, but knowing how much of a raging bitchaholic Laine becomes kind of taints it for me.
And I totally believe that she and Laine would listen to MTV while playing dollhouse. I did the same kind of thing as a kid with my friends and cousins. And I also believe her being obsessed with Cinderella! When I was nine, I got obsessed with Sleeping Beauty, which I had just gotten on video, and I watched it every day after school for a long time.
And I liked the chapter with Mara. Stacey was super annoying and I'd have wanted to punch her, so I totally understood Mara.
And the Claudia chapter was cute, but dull. I mean, those feelings had all been covered. Tell me something I don't know about.

Their nyc adventures were so much fun to read about, though I noticed Stacey and Claudia wen to tourist places more than obscure ones like most city kids know about. Claudia did buy some neat stuff though. Even though Stacey was annoying in Maine, she was okay once she adjusted....I also agree she will either date someone like Randall if not someone like Ethan.

I'm surprised they didn't go to Hell's Kitchen for buying rare jewelry and clothes

I didn't like this one for the same reason that Shannon’s Story didn't pull me in. I just can’t relate to their lifestyles at all. One thing that really jumped out at me was every story had so many food references. Candy and ice cream constantly. It got me thinking that if Stacey hadn't developed diabetes she may have been the club member who was always on a trendy new diet once her metabolism started shifting. The Early Years: I don’t really know the Eloise stories, so this chapter was kind of wasted on me. The dinner sounded rather formal for a fourth birthday celebration. Pavarotti was there chilling! I’m not sophisticated enough to understand. When I Was Five: I was never a Macy’s Parade fan, so this was another story that didn't grab my interest as much as it should have. I liked Cinderella (still one of my fav Disney cartoon movies), and I definitely had my own obsessions, so I got Stacey on that one. She got the best souvenir possible (the crown) as a memory. I did catch a few minutes of the parade this year, and it looked amazing on HD TV. Seeing that in person must be mind blowing for a five year old. When I Was Eight: By far my favorite story in the book. (I love how half of this thread is about what kind of music little girls listen to. J) This one actually seems kinda trendy, what with shows like DWTS and So You Think You Can Dance being so popular the past few years. Stacey was unhappy having to associate with and hold boys’ hands. Lol, if she only knew her future. How nice that Maureen and Mrs. Cummings completely ignored their own incompetence over the missed dance classes (ballroom jean skirts, really?) and were basically like “let’s not let the girls’ punishment get in the way of our friendship!” Maureen really was undesirable until after the divorce. When I Was Ten: Stacey was a frickin world traveler by then. Maine was her hillbilly equivalent to Mary Anne’s farm adventures. Stupid Ed shoved his briefcase into his little girl’s suitcase and told her to lie to her mother. Mara could have been cool except for that chip on her shoulder. She seemed like the type who would hate tourists on her island regardless of who they were. I was shocked at Stacey yelling out “You’re a hick!” The way she said it made it sound like a swear word or a racial slur. Since I already wasn't liking Ed in this one I didn't get the panic over his ankle. He wasn't dying. Unless he had a bone protruding from it I would have made him suck up the pain until Mara’s parents were available. Big lol Stacey and Mara had a big gushing goodbye (we’ll write! every week! at the same time! so that we know we’re thinking of each other in that exact moment!) immediately followed by “yeah, we never wrote to each other once”. Ha. When I Was Twelve (Thirteen): This was a boring repeat. The cynic in me thought Stacey added it to her bio so she could tell how she was so great that her friend fell apart when she moved away. Whatever. They used the word “hick” in this story, too. Really Stacey, don’t make me hate you more. I thought it was cute that she went out and bought Claudia a huge candy stash for the weekend. I could see why Stacey picked Stoneybrook with her mother. She had no true friends at this point. I don’t know why Stacey got an A. Her bio was pretty much a collection of awesome things that happened to her. She spoke nothing about the “two Ds” that shaped her so much. I know this was the first portrait book, so everything seemed a bit experimental. Stacey “talked” to her teacher in some parts in ways that the other girls didn’t. She was the only one who didn't have the titles of each section listed in the upper corners of the book. Her cover picture collage was a little stingy compared to the others. To top it all off, she picked the most unimaginative title possible.

^ To answer your question about why Stacey got an A ....
I've thought about this before, and I feel like the BSC members' grades on their portraits reflect their grade averages. Although there can be some exceptions. For example, Abby got an A (I believe) but I see her more of a B student and Claudia got a B-something but I think she's more of a C student. Otherwise, their grades reflect what I see them getting overall.
Edited to add: Also, if you think about it, if any of the girls got below a B, their portrait collection would have sucked. I don't think ghostie could have written a well-written book and given the girl a bad grade. So they were kind of forced to give them all good grades in a way.

I do like these portrait books. This time around I did like Mara a bit more. I feel like they tried to make her sound uneducated which I guess I could see. I think it would be fun to live somewhere like that

I don't think they made her sound uneducated, they made it sound like Stacey thought she didn't know anything, and looked silly in the end when she could babysit and drive a motorboat. The food they all had sounded so delicious

That would be like a repeat of Claudia ending up with Alan though it's not entirely impossible. It would be tragic if she and Robert got married, that would really be one toxic relationship.
