Soo I left off somewhere in Grace's story... So I thought I'd go back to the beginning and re-read BFF and Shannon's... I really do like it, but it's sad knowing what's coming up. I also do have a little trouble accepting that Stacye has no romantic interest. It just doesn't seem very Stacey-ish to me. Thoughts?

I had a hard time with Grace's story, I think because it was so long between updates that I kind of forgot what was going on. I read them in the order she published them and I loved BFF and MLTS. I really liked picking up the bits and pieces of the stories from the different points of view. (Example Mary Anne's black eye.) I thought that Stacey's motivation for not wanting to focus on boys rang true (she had a std scare right?)

Yeah, that's true, but I wouldn't imagine it would scare her off that much? I actually have finished all three of them now, and believe it or not, My Mothers Daughter was my favourite! There was just something about Grace, a vulnerability that made you really feel for her. Plus I often loved and hated her. LovelyLemonTree (Celia) has more tidbits on her LJ

I just finished BFF. Man, was that a long fan fiction! I think it was the length of like 7 BSC books. lol. I'm interested to read the others in the same universe (like Most Likely to Succeed) but I don't know if I can commit to something that long again.

The stories were interesting, but too melodramatic and soap opera-ish.
I actually can imagine Stacey without a boyfriend, especially by senior year...she had other interests besides boys.
I didn't like that Celica twisted Richard and Sharon into these off-canon, mean, abusive parents with Mary Anne as their helpless victim.

The stories were interesting, but too melodramatic and soap opera-ish. And I didn't like that Celica twisted Richard and Sharon into these off-canon, mean, abusive parents with Mary Anne as their helpless victim. That's how I felt as well. While well written and interesting it reads more like 90210 if 90210 were in a Stonybrook. I also feel that Celica twisted characters and their traits for her story. The Mary Anne Sharon Richard thing was a classic example. By Mary Anne was in 8th grade Richard was much more lenient and Sharon and Mary Ann had too many sweet moments for her to suddenly become a wicked step mother The fact that Mary Anne was wearing pigtails and was a parody of her 12 year old self was another example. She was much more confident in the later books and not even trauma would cause her to regress like that. Stacey was also twisted for the story her relationships appear innocent in the series. Claudia would also not be a high school dropout stoner and Mallory would also not be off the rails. I like her stories but her dramas stories do leave you feeling empty because of the goings on and Celica's take on what becomes of the BSC, which often a cliched parody of their traits

I wonder if maybe Celica was actually writing about her own life, but using the BSC characters' names.
I see lots of fanfic authors do that.
