I just searched through all the LS book threads for the second time, trying to find one for "Karen's Hurricane," and couldn't. I apologize of somewhere there is a hidden thread, I really thought there was, but maybe I am remembering reading about it as it related to another book. Anyway, if any of you know of a thread for this book already, please let me know the link and I will delete this.
Onto the story. This was quite the action packed book. I have been finding as I read through the LS I generally prefer the stories that take place at the Little House rather than at Watson's. That has been very surprising to me since I had been hoping to find out more about the BSC (at least some mentions) in the LS. I loved this book for all the cozy moments at home. I know there was a hurricane raging outside and that sounded extremely scary and I was so glad no one was injured. I just meant we got to read more about Karen being a good big sister to Andrew and Lisa caring for them both, family time, something we don't often see in a BSC book. Seth, as most always, was awesome. The description of the bench he made from the Oak Tree (it had been pulled up by the roots as a result of the hurricane) sounded so cool and meaningful, a great way of honoring the tree and all the Stoneybrook Academy kids who loved it. Maybe it is just me but I found it somewhat hard to believe that Kristy, I know she is physically very strong, was able to row Seth, a grown man, all the way home from downtown Stoneybrook. That part while fun and sweet to read about (the reunion) struck me as very odd and thrown in. Then again my memories of being in a row boat are mainly in my family's pool (inflatible boat with oars) and eons ago as a young kid when the Davy Crocket Explorer Canoe I was in at Disneyland fell over. I never went on that ride again and my idea of a "sailing" trip has always been "It's a Small World."
