I voted for Suzanne Weyn. I think Suzanne has the most mellow voice, which appeals to me. I think she writes Dawn's voice well, since Dawn is, of course, supposed to be pretty laidback. I remember in two Dawn books that Suzanne wrote (Dawn's Big Date and Dawn and the School Spirit War), I thought her mellow tone captured Dawn particularly well. (Plus she also wrote another one of my favorite books as a kid.)
Peter's books annoy me. I liked the first couple of books of his I read...but after the first couple, his style becomes REALLY repetitive; you can practically call out what he's going to write. Not surprising he annoys me, considering I like Suzanne for her mellowness, and Peter is the total opposite of mellow. He tries so hard to convince us that the events in the books are just sooooo zany and wild and crazy, "man, it sure sounds like we're having fun because we're just SO CRAZY, right?" He's always trying to convince us that the sitters are laughing so hard at something that they can't breathe; the only problem is that generally the thing they're laughing at was barely worth a chuckle, so the scenes just come off as annoying.
Jahna and Malcolm's books kinda annoy me too...they just have a weird style that stands out from the other books, and the characters seem like they're challenged in some way.

you can practically call out what he's going to write. Haha, very true. His books are very nostalgic for me though, so he's my vote. He definitely could try too hard, but a lot of his stuff cracks me up too. Suzanne would be next!

The only one I can pick out when I am reading is Peter Lerangis, and that is only since reading these boards lol. I think he has a very distinct voice and should have written for Abby and Claudia, and maybe Kristy and Jessi, but his voice doesn't fit well with Mary Anne, Mallory, or Stacey. I don't know who my favorite is, but after I read them all, I'll let you know.

I never paid very close attention to the ghostwriters, so I don't have a favorite. Like Rachel, the only one I can really pick out is Lerangis.

That's actually a good idea for specific ghostwriters to write for specific sitters. I like it.

^ Maybe they could've each become the expert of a specific character and only write her books so we could get a distinct voice for each character. We could of then seen how each character views the others and other characters and the girls could share thoughts to the reader that they would never in a million years reveal to anyone in their world. Maybe Mary Anne could show annoyance at Sharon's tendency at misplacing things in her narrations while you could tell that that's something that's endearing to Dawn in hers. I don't know.

^Wow that sounds like a great idea Amalia. :)I do feel that the girls seem to be talking to "us" anyway so lol why shouldn't they sometimes share a secret? I read through an older thread the other night where we discussed how cool it would be if one of us had a chance to visit Stoneybrook if even as an observer in the background. Your idea, Amalia, is a truly insider(Stoneybrook native) version of that! I also never thought about the ghost-writers until this board. I have to admit when I first saw this thread my initial reaction was that I tend to prefer Gabrielle Charbonnet's LS books to some of the others. I guess that is a sign I've been reading a lot of LS lately. I will probably be starting a re-read of all things BSC before the end of the year. I'll have to keep a feel out for whose voice of the ghosties I prefer.

I will have to look at the list of who wrote what again. I know I was generally amused by Peter. I think it was Nola who often added details from prior books in the series (probably from other books she had written, lol). She could be boring, but I liked that in moderation.

^I agree Amalia, I would have liked to have seen ghostwriters writing for specific sitters, so that their writing styles could create distinct voices for the sitters. Maybe Mary Anne could show annoyance at Sharon's tendency at misplacing things in her narrations while you could tell that that's something that's endearing to Dawn in hers. I like that idea too...it would have been nice to have seen different opinions on the same topics, depending on who's narrating. For example, in the chapter 2s, Kristy could have said Claudia's clothes are really weird, and Stacey could have talked about how cool they are, instead of all the sitters talking about how great Claudia's style is. And I agree about how it would be nice if there were some "secrets" that the readers knew, that weren't known by everyone in the group. I can only think of a few examples of this in the books, but I really liked those moments - like Mary Anne telling Claudia in the chain letter book that she saw a therapist, and Mal and Jessi playing horses together.

I think I have to go with Suzanne Weyn. Lerangis is probably the best writer overall, but Weyn's "voice" fit the BSC world better.
