After starting the sleepover thread, I started thinking about the various non-sleepover parties the BSC threw. I tend to enjoy the ones that don't involve their charges. Do you have any favorites? Either involving kids, or just the BSC and their peers. The first one that popped into my head was the NYC/Connecticut party Stacey threw in #18 - all the arguing! The teenage drama! I usually don't enjoy BSC fights that much, but this one I do like. I also like the scene with Mallory at her riding classmate's birthday party in #54, because it felt realistic to me. I sympathize with her feeling awkward and left out and not knowing anyone. I actually had a similar thing happen to me last year! Some things never change when you're an adult, I've learned. Me and my introversion - I should have known better.

I love Pamela's birthday party in Karen's in Love.

I love most of the parties with the charges and can do without most of the fights. I think only Afton and I feel this way--generally preferring the kids to the other stuff. My favorite charge party is the Valentine's Masquerade in "Stacey's Ex Best Friend." I loved how at that point in the series all the sitters still truly cared about making a special party for the kids and it was written as a fun time. I also am always touched by the holiday party in "Empty House." Candykane, hug, I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm also introverted and wouldn't have been a fan of a big party filled with people I really didn't know. Good thread idea, too.

My favorite is the party they threw for Mallory after they had visited the old folks home from Get Well Soon, Mallory. It was really sweet.

Thanks, zoar. My experience wasn't quite as bad as Mallory's, thankfully another person who didn't know anyone else arrived later on, and we chatted for awhile. Plus I didn't have to wait for my mom to come pick me up, ;D so I stayed just long enough to be polite. One kid-oriented party I liked was the Big Brother party they gave Jamie Newton. I liked that one because it was spur of the moment, and overall just a really cute and nice thing to do for him.

^Amalia, I forgot about that. I wish we had gotten to read about that (Get Well Soon Mallory-GWSM) party "live," it was so sweet. GWSM was so much better than "Karen's Grandmothers," though the Big Mama friendship between Nancy and Karen's Grandma was so very funny. I know this wasn't a party but I just read "Karen's Christmas Tree" (I'm trying to cool off through the BSC) and would have enjoyed reading about Nancy and Grandma B seeing Annie at the children's theater though I never much cared for Annie the play or movie. I would have liked seeing a live Nancy/Grandma B interaction for a bit longer. Candykane, I'm glad. That was a very sad and sweet party for Jamie. I love Jamie and felt so badly for him that afternoon when it seemed like his world had broken. I wish Kristy had remained his favorite sitter, though sounded like he thought of her more of a big sister and there had been more interactions between them. Kristy did tell us Jamie had stayed at the Thomas' once before so it sounded like the Newtons were friends with Elizabeth. I know later Claudia and Jamie because closer too. This reminds me of Jamie at Sudsy's! Not a party but for him and the other kids that outing might have felt like one.

It definitely seemed that Mrs. NEwton & Elizabeth were probably good friends.

I like the first two you mentioned as well, the NYC one was sad but the drama made me laugh between Dawn and Mary Anne although I felt bad for Kristy after she danced with that guy. Overall, it sounded like the party was well put together
I also thought Pamela's birthday party sounded awesome, I liked reading about the lootbags. I wanted to put a dollar in future lootbags after reading that.
Here are more:
-The Christmas in July party for James Hobart, it was nice reading about how they went shopping for the gifts and and decorated his room like it's Christmas -Up until Dawn & Mary Anne showed up, Stacey and Robert's spring party in Stacey vs. the BSC -The Mother's Day tea party in Mary Anne's book, it sounded sweet -Mary Anne's 13th birthday, three words for you: Little Orphan Annie! -Karen's tea party with all those delicious brownies, cookies, fancy dresses, pretty invitations etc. -Valentine's party in karen's in love, their snacks sounded delicious and the games sounded fun -Sharon's surprise birthday party at Chez Maurice that turned out to be their wedding announcement -Stacey's dad's dinner in NYC at his work, it sounded very formal though I felt bad for Stacey and her mother -The party at the museum at Claudia and the Mystery at the Museum, art exhibits after hours are fun! -

I like the one they had at the beginning of Boy-Crazy Stacey where they've never really been to Kristy's new house and Stacey's mom tries to make her take apple slices in case there's nothing she can eat.
The barbeque Dawn has in Impossible Three, where she actually makes her mom get hot dogs and buy a grill, and then her grandparents are interrogating Richard Spier.
The pool party Karen had for the 4th of July in Karen's Swim Meet is probably my favorite Little Sister series party. Also, even though her classmates all thought it sucked, I liked the idea of her half-birthday party and think it could have been fun.

Druscilla's halloween party. The games and cupcakes sounded neat.

^ Druscilla's halloween party is my favorite as well.
The barbeque Dawn has in the Impossible Three is a close second. I liked how Mr. Porter was impressed by Richard.

Yeah, the games sounded really fun, but Karen was being so OCD and borderline schizoid about her food being poisoned though I loved her Pippi costume. In the picture, it didn't look like she did makeup the way Lisa did for her at the Little House. I also thought the tea party earlier in the book seemed fun, and was a teaser for Karen's Tea Party which would come out less than a year after.
What happened at the barbecue? I don't remember
This isn't really a party, but Thanksgiving dinner at the little house in Karen's Surprise sounded good. All that food, the surprise of granny & granddad showing up, watching the parade. Hannukah at Nancy's, that was nice to read about as well. The party after the assembly in Karen's Tuba Maple Leaves party in Ms. Colman's class in Karen's Toothache when they were making cookies Kitten party in Karen's Kittens Karen's Sleepover The party at the nursing home in Karen's Grandmothers with all their skits, songs and craft gifts.
