I couldn't find any thread about this one. Point me in the right direction if I missed it. I went to a huge used book sale today - I was expecting some good BSC finds like I had found in the past, and was disappointed that they had very few there, and this was the only one I found that I didn't own yet. So I picked it up. It's the one by Sonia Black and Pat Brigandi. Anyway, nothing too interesting to say about this one. The only thing that stuck out to me was in the section where they give you advice on how to entertain yourself after the kids go to bed - they include some advice on games to play with yourself if the TV show you're watching is boring ("Make a prediction about how many car chases there will be in the episode; then keep track to see if you're right".) Uh, thanks, but I think I can handle entertaining myself for a couple hours.

I have two copies of this for some reason and it's super boring. The notebook pages at the back seem useless, and this is speaking as someone who would have actually kept a notebook. Of course part of my dislike is probably partly because I had about half a dozen different how to babysit books at one point and they are all pretty much the same. One thing I always wondered is why every babysitting guide tells you to go check on the kids every fifteen minutes after they fall asleep. I'm not saying that I'd put on headphones and ignore the kid if they cried or woke up, but once they're asleep? I'm not going to risk tripping over a toy in the hallway and crashing to the ground and waking them back up.
Anyway, as far as actual babysitting advice I much preferred the Baby-Sitters Club Guide to Babysitting.

^Yeah, I was kinda surprised they said to check on the child every 15 minutes. When I was in middle school I took a baby-sitting course at the local hospital, and at the end of the course the instructor was quizzing us. She asked me how often I should check on a sleeping baby and I guessed every 15 minutes, and she was like "Oh heavens no, you want the baby to actually get some sleep, don't you?"

Bwahahahaha the car chase thing made me laugh. I remember seeing this book but wasn't interested in buying it, probably because stuff like THAT was in it and I'd have rather had an actual series book instead.

I read this book less than a year ago (I'm including all of the peripheral books like that in my readthrough) and I still don't remember any of that stuff. I guess it was just too boring to remember.

I had/have this book. I'll have to look for my copy. I vaguely remember the lists of "don'ts" and one was "don't spank the children." Haha!

is it every half an hour if not 15 minutes? real life taught me that bsc is not accurate and that was disappointing LOL
I feel like ann wrote this in the 50's and turned it into an extra book for filler scholastic package material
