Chapter One:
Mary Anne had had the stomach virus for five days. She was puking every five to ten minutes. The bug drove her crazy. She was tired of hugging the toilet bowl, praying for it to disappear.
“Why don't you drink some ginger ale?” Mr. Spier suggested as Mary Anne nauseously sat on the kitchen bench.
“Yuck!” Mary Anne complained. “That would make me feel even worse!”
“Mary Anne, I was just trying to make a helpful suggestion,” Mr. Spier snapped. “There is no need to be rude.”
“I'm sorry,” Mary Anne sighed heavily. “I just want this bug to go away now.”
“I don't even know where you picked this bug from,” Mr. Spier murmured as he dried a dish with a towel. “At least you haven't given the bug to any of us yet.”
“Do you have any other suggestions?” Mary Anne pleaded. “I'm tired of hugging the toilet bowl like it's my best friend, you know.”
“I could take you to the doctor...”
“No! I don't want to go to the doctor!”
“All right, I suggest you go up to my bathroom and get some pepto-bismol. Perhaps that will help you a bit, all right?”
“Thanks, Dad.”
“No problem.”
Mary Anne went upstairs to her father's bathroom. She started looking through the cupboards. Then her eyes fell on a colorful box of tampons. It dawned on Mary Anne that her period was ten days late. A horrible thought occurred to Mary Anne: Was it possible that she was pregnant?
Well, it wasn't impossible. In fact, it was very possible. Mary Anne and her steady boyfriend Logan Bruno were sexually active ever since they were fourteen. However, they had been extremely careful. Each time Mary Anne and Logan had sex, they used a condom. Also, Mary Anne took the pill. A condom never broke and Mary Anne never forgot to take the pill.
But still, Mary Anne was worried. Her body felt stiff. How would Mr. Spier react if he discovered his sixteen year old daughter was pregnant? He would have a heart attack, of course.
Calm down, Mary Anne. Mary Anne thought to herself. Tomorrow I will buy a pregnancy test at the pharmacy and then I will take it when I get back home. If it's positive, then, I will figure out how to tell Dad—and Logan. If it's negative, then the whole thing would be forgotten.
Mary Anne sighed. She looked at her stomach and thought, Who knows...I may be carrying a life inside me at this very second.
She hoped she wasn't pregnant at all.

Chapter Two:
“Mary Anne, honey, are you feeling well enough to go to school?” Mr. Spier asked his daughter the next morning. He took a sip of coffee as he waited for the reply.
“No way,” Mary Anne groaned. “I cannot go to school with this annoying bug! I was vomiting all night last night...”
“But didn't the pepto-bismol help?”
“Not really, Dad...oh, my stomach hurts.”
“You know, Mary Anne, if this stomach virus keeps up, then I'm afraid I have to take you to the doctor.”
“Dad, we can use the doctor at last resort. Remember when I was fifteen, I had a cold for two weeks and you kept insisting to go to the doctor's? Well, I managed to get better without the doctor. And I think I will this time.”
“All right, Mary Anne. I have to go to work right now. Oh, and I am going to be home later than usual—ten thirty or so. There's leftovers in the fridge or you could order pizza/Chinese food.”
Pizza and Chinese food sounds delicious, Mary Anne thought. Hmm...perhaps I should order both.
“Bye, Dad, I love you.”
“I love you too, honey, get lots of rest.”
Once Mr. Spier finally left, Mary Anne got ready for the trip to the pharmacy. Her stomach didn't hurt as much anymore (she hadn't puked in two entire hours). She slipped on a fitted black tee shirt with a green plaid vest, skinny blue jeans, and black ballet flats. She brushed her long, brown hair and put in a black headband. Then she grabbed her purse and headed out the house.
She walked down the sidewalk, listening to her MP3 player. By ten minutes, she arrived at CVS Pharmacy. Mary Anne entered the store and went straight ahead to the 'pregnancy' aisle.
Mary Anne would have never imagined walking down the 'pregnancy' aisle at sixteen years old. She imagined she would at, like, thirty years old. And by then, she would be married.
Mary Anne grabbed a pregnancy test and went to the check-out center. The cashier gave Mary Anne a disapproving Look when she handed her the pregnancy test.
“Another may-be pregnant teenager, huh?” The cashier commented rather rudely.
“I guess,” Mary Anne said in a tiny voice. She felt very awkward and self-conscious.
“You shouldn't have had sex in the first place, anyway,” The cashier went on. “What ever happened to sex until marriage?”
“If you would excuse me, I am a responsible young woman,” Mary Anne spoke up in a sharp tone. “I have used protection. I don't sleep with every guy at school, you know. I am not a sl*t. I waited for the guy I truly loved. And, you know what? Mistakes happen.”
Mary Anne was surprised that she stood up for herself. That was very uncharacteristic of her. But she felt proud of herself.
“Whatever,” The cashier scoffed and rolled her eyes as she handed the pregnancy test back to Mary Anne.
Mary Anne sighed and shook her head. Even though she was very hurt inside, she shrugged it off. Mary Anne exited the pharmacy and went back home.
I wonder if the pregnancy test would be positive or negative? Mary Anne thought as she came into the house. She walked up the stairs and locked herself in the bathroom.
She was about to take the pregnancy test.

Chapter Three:
Waiting...waiting...waiting...
Three minutes certainly doesn't go by fast if you want it to be. Mary Anne had been staring at the stick she had just peed on in the bathroom. Thoughts of being pregnant swarmed through Mary Anne's mind.
By the time the three minutes had passed, Mary Anne picked up the stick and looked at it for the result. There was a plus sign on it. Mary Anne sighed. She was pregnant.
The word 'pregnant' echoed through Mary Anne's mind. What should she do? Mary Anne decided whether she wanted to keep it, abort it, or leave it to adoption.
Once she made that decision, Mary Anne could tell Logan first. Then she could tell her father.
Unfortunately, it was easier said than done.

Chapter Four:
Mary Anne had been pacing around her bedroom for hours, thinking. At last, she sat at her desk. A clean sheet of notebook paper laid before her. She decided to write down the pros and cons of each choice: Keeping the baby, abortion, and adoption.
Keeping the Baby
Pros:
1) You wouldn't regret giving the baby up. 2) You would be able to use your babysitting skills to raise your own baby. 3) Babies are precious. 4) Raising a baby could be exciting.
Cons:
1) You would be judged for being a teenage mother. 2) It is difficult to raise a baby especially at a young age. 3) You will have to drop out of school to raise the baby and your future plans as an adult may be shattered.
Abortion
Pros:
1) You wouldn't have to worry about having a baby.
Cons:
1) Abortion would be basically murdering an unborn child. 2) You may regret aborting your baby. 3) People may judge you for aborting the baby.
Adoption
Pros:
1) You wouldn't have to worry about raising your baby.
Cons:
1) You may regret leaving the baby for adoption. 2) Your child may end up being unloved. 3) Your child may end up being in several different families from time to time and he might not end up with a family he's welcome to. 4) Your child might be angry at his real mother for deciding not to take care of him (he would think his mother didn't love or want him) 5) Your child may be searching for you.
Mary Anne nervously chewed on the eraser of her pencil. It was such a hard choice to make. At last, she decided to go with the one with the most pros. And that was keeping the baby.
Mary Anne was going to keep her baby. She felt good that she was going to keep the baby. Sure she may have to quit school but she could always go back. Plus, it was possible to go to college and raise a child at the same time.
I wonder what would Logan and Dad think of me having a baby? Mary Anne wondered. I know Dad's going to freak but I'm sure he's going to support me at the end. But what if Logan doesn't even want to be a father? He might abandon me and my baby forever...
Mary Anne decided to call her best friend in the entire world: Kristy Thomas.

Chapter Five:
Mary Anne snapped the cordless phone and quickly dialed Kristy's phone number. Her heart pounded as the phone rang. Then she heard Kristy's voice say,"Hello?"
"Kristy, it's Mary Anne."
"Hi, Mary Anne! How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling better."
"How come you didn't go to school then?"
"I'm not feeling better completely."
"Okay, okay. But you must have been feeling better enough to call me."
"Yeah..."
"I think I'm sensing you are going to tell me something awful."
"Well, it's not that awful..."
"Spill it, Mary Anne. I'm your best friend. You can tell me anything, you know."
"I know but it's really hard to tell the news."
"Out with it, Mary Anne!"
Mary Anne was practically biting her nails. Oh, how could she tell this? She decided it was best to just blurt it out.
"Kristy, I'm pregnant."
"Huh?"
"Kristin Amanda Thomas, I'm PREGNANT."
"What the...Logan knocked you out, didn't he? I could kill Logan and send him to hell!"
"Kristy....you are not helping. It's not Logan's fault. He and I had been sexually active for two years! I engaged in sexual activity because I wanted to. Logan didn't pressure me to have sex with him and he didn't rape me."
"I didn't even know you lost your virginity. But, look, Mary Anne, I'm on your side one hundred percent."
"And Logan's side, too?"
"Why would I do that? He's the one who put his thingy in--"
"Gee, Kristy, you are such a wonderful help. Thanks for comforting me and being a true best friend. I really appreciated it."
Mary Anne was shocked at herself. She wasn't often sarcastic with people. She had a feeling her pregnancy would shape her into Kristy.
"I'm sorry, Mary Anne." Kristy's voice softened. "You must be really scared, huh?"
"I am scared...Kristy, you are the only one who knows I'm pregnant. Even Logan doesn't know."
"You know you have to tell Logan some time. He has every right to know he's going to be a father."
"I know...but I'm afraid how he would handle it. He might abandon me and my baby forever."
"Mary Anne, did you think I was going to abandon you forever just because you are pregnant?"
"Well, yes...I thought you were going to judge me for being pregant and think I'm a sl*t."
"Well, you were man enough to tell me, anyway. If you can tell me, you can tell Logan."
"Thanks, Kristy. I appreciate your help a whole lot."
"Hey, that's what best friends are for! And, Mary Anne, if Logan truly loves you, he's still going to stick to your side."
"Kristy, could you do me a favor?"
"Sure."
"Could you tell the rest of the BSC that I'm pregnant?"
"Of course. Look, I gotta go, Mary Anne. Sitting job at the Pikes'."
" 'Bye."
" 'Bye...and good luck!"
"Thanks, Kristy."
Mary Anne hung up the phone and sighed. It was time to call Logan.

Chapter Six:
Trembling, Mary Anne dialed Logan's phone number. But then she hung up. She didn't have the guts to tell Logan that she was pregnant. At last, she decided to treat him a surprise visit.
Mary Anne went to the kitchen to fix herself a snack, which included a bowl of steaming broccoli covered in oozing chocolate and a gallon of ginger ale. That is so strange, Mary Anne thought as she ate her snack. I never liked broccoli and ginger ale.
Afterwards, Mary Anne slipped on a sweater and biked to the Bruno house. She nervously rang the door bell, her palms sweaty and fingers trembling. A few moments later, Logan opened the door.
"Mary Anne? What are you doing here? I wasn't expecting you here." Logan said, his eyes arched.
"I hadn't been over to your house in so long," Mary Anne replied. "Besides, I'm feeling a whole lot better now. And, Logan, we have to have a talk."
With a puzzled expression, Logan let Mary Anne inside.
"Mary Anne, Mom, Kerry, and Hunter are home so we can't 'study'..." Logan said with a wink.
"There's no need to 'study'...besides, there's no 'test' to take this week." Mary Anne said coldly. "I have to talk to you about something. Can we go to your room for a bit of privacy?"
"Whatever," Logan smiled warmly as he slipped his hand in Mary Anne's. The two went up the stairs to Logan's room. Mary Anne sat on the edge of Logan's king-sized bed as he locked the door.
"So what's the big deal?" Logan asked as he plopped on the bed next to Mary Anne.
"The big deal is..." Mary Anne could feel a lump in her throat. A lump as big as a boulder.
"Mary Anne, spill it!" Logan said impatiently. "We don't have all day, you know."
"I don't know how to say it any other way...I'm pregnant, Logan." Mary Anne burst out. "I know because my period was ten days late. The stomach virus really wasn't a virus. I took a pregnancy test and it was positive."
Logan gaped at Mary Anne.
"Logan, I know you weren't expecting this." Mary Anne continued. "I'm scared, Logan. But I decided to keep the baby."
"Mary Anne," Logan said icily. "We are both only sixteen years old. We aren't old enough to be parents. I don't want to be a father. Why don't you abort the d*mn baby?"
"Excuse me?"
"I said why don't you abort the d*mn baby, a*shole!"
"Are you kidding me? I'm against abortion--and adoption! Besides, it was partly your fault, too."
"It takes two to have a baby, Mary Anne. I don't want to be a father. There's so many to do before having children. Besides, I won a football scholarship, remember?"
"Logan, you can't plan everything in life, honey. Things go unexpected. So, are you going to stick to my side and help me raise our child?"
"What the f*ck?! No, I don't want to raise your godd*mn kid! I'm one of the most popular guys at school and there's no way in h*ll I'm going to ruin my rep by being a stupid teen dad!"
Tears sprung to Mary Anne's eyes. Before she knew it, tears were streaming down her cheeks. Logan didn't want the baby. She hoped he would support her. She was wrong.
"Mary Anne, since you are a teen mom, and I'm going to be judged because people will think I knocked you up, I don't want to be seen with you ever again."
"What?! You mean, we are breaking up?!"
"You're d*mn right I am."
"I hate you, Logan! You are nothing but a useless piece of crap!"
Crying, Mary Anne ran out of Logan's room, down the stairs, and out of the house. She ignored Mrs. Bruno who asked Mary Anne why she was crying.
"I can't believe Logan's did that to me," Mary Anne said to herself as she wiped away her tears.

Chapter Seven:
When Mary Anne arrived home from Logan's house, she was still crying. She ran into her father who was apparently home from work.
"Mary Anne, why are you crying?" Mr. Spier asked curiously.
"Dad? What are you doing here? I thought you were going to be home at, like, ten thirty." Mary Anne replied.
"It turned out the meeting was canceled." Mr. Spier said. "Honey, your face is all red and blotchy. Why are you crying?"
Right then, Mary Anne told Mr. Spier what had happened from going up to the bathroom for pepto-bismol to breaking up with Logan. Mr. Spier listened calmly and patiently which surprised Mary Anne.
"Mary Anne, I am terribly sorry," Mr. Spier answered softly. "You must be scared to death right now."
"Dad, are you mad at me?" Mary Anne asked, looking up at her father. "If you are, well, I don't blame you."
"I'm not mad at you, sweetie," Mr. Spier said soothingly. "Disappointed, yes. Mad, not at all. Mistakes do happen after all."
"I thought you were going to, like, freak out and disown me," Mary Anne admitted.
"Disown you?! Why would I do that, Mary Anne? I love you to death, sweetheart. I can never ever part with you."
"Me neither," Mary Anne wiped her tears and sniffled. She managed to put on a smile. "But this pregnancy is going to be harder for me--not only because I'm young but because I'm going to be a single parent."
"Mary Anne, Logan is a big, dumb jerk." Mr. Spier said firmly. "I will always help you out with the baby and pregnancy."
"I love you, Dad." Mary Anne said, already grinning.
"I love you, too, baby."
Mr. Spier and Mary Anne hugged each other tightly.

Logan is a jerk. Glad, her dad is supporting her, didn't kicked her out of the house, Mary Anne living on the streets or living one of BSC's house.

Chapter Eight:
The next morning, Mary Anne decided to go to school. She, of course, didn't want to go back to school since she was pregnant. She would probably be called a sl*t. Mary Anne felt like one anyway.
"Daddy, do I have to go to school?" Mary Anne complained at breakfast. "The only people who knows I'm pregnant are you, Logan, Kristy, and the BSC. I don't want the whole school to know I'm pregnant."
"Mary Anne," Mr. Spier said. "I'm afraid that you will have to deal with a lot of people throughout your pregnancy. There may be people who will support you and there may be people who will judge you for being a teen mom."
"The cashier at the pharmacy was very judgemental," Mary Anne grumbled. "I wish I never had sex in the first place."
"I'm not surprised you were sexually active," Mr. Spier admitted. "But I am very surprised that you are pregnant. I always thought of you has a smart, responsible young lady but even smart, responsible young ladies make mistakes."
"I am really happy you are supporting me," Mary Anne smiled. "Right now I could have been kicked out and living on the streets."
"Mary Anne, I am going to support you with every single decision you make." Mr. Spier reassured. "In a way, I am actually proud of you."
"You are?" Mary Anne asked, surprised.
"Yes, I am glad you decided not to abort the baby." Mr. Spier replied. "You are very courageous to keep the baby at such a young age."
"Thank you," Mary Anne smiled. "I wasn't expecting that."
Mr. Spier chuckled. "Well, I have to go to work now." He said. "I will be home around dinner time. All right?"
"Gosh, dinner sounds wonderful," Mary Anne said. "Perhaps we can eat turky, ham, chicken wings, pizza with everything including anchovies, corn bread, a salad, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheese with extra cheese, spagetti with meatballs, cooked apple slices, and tofu. And Coke."
"I think that's going to be a bit high on our grocery bill," Mr. Spier joked.
"No-no, that's just the appetizer," Mary Anne said quickly.
"Goodbye, Mary Anne." Mr. Spier sighed. "I may go grocery shopping after work."
"Great."
After Mr. Spier left, Mary Anne got ready for school. She wore a pretty pink flowery sundress, white lacy socks, and white platform shoes. She tied her brown hair in a half-ponytail. She threw on mascara, lipstick, and blush. Then she slipped on her backpack and headed out the house. She saw Kristy Thomas and the entire BSC on the sidewalk.
"You guys?!" Mary Anne exclaimed. "What a lovely surprise!"
"Good morning, Mary Anne!" Everybody chorused.
Mary Anne hugged every single BSC member. Tears were streaming down her face. She was extremely glad that all of her friends were here. Well, most of her friends.
"I sure wish Dawn was here," Mary Anne said sadly.
"So we do we," Mallory Pike whispered.
"All of us miss Dawn," Stacey McGill added.
"And Jeff," Claudia Kishi included.
Dawn Schafer had moved back to Palo City, California (her hometown) three years ago to reunite with her father and brother Jeff. When Dawn was fourteen years old, however, Mr. Schafer had died in a car accident. Of course, Dawn and Jeff were devastated.
So Dawn and Jeff moved back to Stoneybrook to live with Sharon (their mother), Mr. Spier, and Mary Anne. When Dawn and Jeff were finally getting used to the death of their dad, Sharon passed away. She had gotten sick with leukemia. She was only sick for five months and then she died in her sleep one night. It happened so suddenly. Everybody was upset especially Dawn and Jeff. After all, their dad had just died the year before.
Dawn and Jeff became extremely depressed. The night after Dawn's sixteenth birthday, she and Jeff committed suicide. So much had happened in their lives and they didn't want to live anymore. Dawn killed herself by shooting herself in the heart with a gun. Jeff drowned himself in a lake.
"I miss Dawn and Jeff so much," Mary Anne said, crying. "And Sharon."
After Mary Anne stopped crying, Kristy said brightly,"Let's walk to school, guys."
The BSC walked to Stoneybrook High School. In the school yard, Mary Anne noticed Logan. My ex-boyfriend, Mary Anne thought bitterly. She realized that Logan was making out with...Cokie Mason, the BSC's archenemy.
"Look at Logan Bruno," Mary Anne said, clenching her teeth. "He's making out with Cokie Mason."
"Logan's a f*cking jerk," Kristy told Mary Anne. "He cares about nobody but himself."
"Yeah, what an a*shole," Claudia scoffed. "Mary Anne, you have business being with him."
"I hate him so much!" Mary Anne sighed. "I can't believe he would do something like that to me."
"He's a typical teenage boy," Kristy said dryly. "Immature. Stupid. Insensitive. Only wants to go around f*cking with girls."
"Not all teenage boys, though," Stacey disagreed.
"True," Kristy agreed. "But a lot of them are like that."
"I totally agree," Jessi Ramsey rolled her eyes. "I like Quint, though."
"And I like Ben," Mallory sighed dreamily.
"Alan Gray is a such a sensitive soul," Claudia sighed. "He may be immature for his age but I love him."
"Yeah, he's really funny," Kristy admitted.
"Goofy," Mary Anne giggled.
The rest of the BSC agreed. Just then the warning bell rang. Everybody entered the school building. Mary Anne walked towards her locker. She noticed that "SL*T" was written across her locker in black Sharpie.
Mary Anne sighed. Great. She was considered a sl*t. She wondered who wrote that across her locker. Mary Anne looked around the hallway. Several people were whispering to each other. Mary Anne heard Shawna Riverson whisper to Pete Black,"Mary Anne Spier is pregnant. Can you believe it? Logan said that Mary Anne was cheating on him and having sex with Trevor Sandbourne. That's why they broke up." Pete Black said aloud,"You mean it's Trevor's baby, too?!"
Mary Anne gasped. Logan was spreading gossip about her. She couldn't believe it. Of course, she wasn't cheating on Logan and having sex with Trevor. She hardly knew Trevor.
"Logan's a b*tch," Mary Anne murmured as she opened her locker and got ready for her first four periods. The second bell rung. Everybody hurried to their homerooms.
Mary Anne slammed her locker shut, shifted her books, and slowly walked to her homeroom. It was going to be a very long day, Mary Anne thought to herself.

Chapter Nine:
It was Saturday. Mary Anne had a doctor's appointment that day. It was an appointment for her pregnancy.
" 'Bye, Dad, I'm going to the doctor's," Mary Anne kissed Mr. Spier on the cheek.
" 'Bye, sweetheart. Good luck," Mr. Spier returned the kiss.
Mary Anne went to Mr. Spier's car and drove down to the doctor's office. It wasn't very far away at all. When she arrived, she expertly parked in the front parking lot and went inside.
To her surprise, she didn't have to wait very long. The nurse called,"Mary Anne Spier." Mary Anne set down the "Seventeen" Magazine she had been reading and got up from her seat. She followed the nurse to her assigned room.
After the nurse asked Mary Anne questions about her health, she said,"The doctor will arrive shortly." As Mary Anne waited for the doctor, she read several magazine articles. "Shortly" was sure a long while. Finally, the doctor came into the room with a clipboard.
"Hello, my name is Doctor Parch," The tall brunette greeted. "But you can call me Doctor Emily."
"Hi," Mary Anne said softly, smiling.
"How are you feeling?" Doctor Emily asked.
"I'm feeling fine," Mary Anne replied. "But I am very scared since I'm sixteen and pregnant."
"It's scary to be pregnant at any age," Doctor Emily said. "I can really sympathize with you since I was sixteen when I was pregnant for the first time."
"You were?" Mary Anne was surprised. "How old is your child now?"
"She's eighteen years old," Doctor Emily answered, smiling fondly. "I was able to graduate high school, go to college and medical school, and become a doctor even though I was a teen mom."
"Wow," Mary Anne said, awed.
"I know," Doctor Emily chuckled. "I believe you will be as successful as I am. Many of my patients were teen moms and they succeeded a whole lot in life."
"I hope so," Mary Anne sighed.
"Well, it looks like you are about four weeks pregnant," Doctor Emily said. "Your baby may be born on April tenth."
"When will I know if the baby's going to be a boy or a girl?" Mary Anne asked.
"With a regular ultrasound, at least sixteen weeks," Doctor Emily responded. "Your next appointment will be at August tenth. That is when you will know the sex of your baby."
"I'll have to wait three entire months?" Mary Anne groaned. "I don't know if I will be able to wait that long."
"Don't worry, you will," Doctor Emily chuckled.
After the appointment, Mary Anne decided to go to the ice cream shop to buy ice cream. She bought a big vanilla ice cream cone with chocolate syrup, rainbow sprinkles, nuts, whipped cream, strawberries, bananas, and broccoli.
I have very weird eating habits, Mary Anne thought as she ate her ice cream. Like a real pregnant woman.
