Was it mentioned anywhere that all the girls were invited but only Claud, Kristy and Mary Anne were able to go? It seems very odd that Dawn would only pick those three, but I don't remember the others saying anything about turning down invites.
I don't think Mary Anne being there was that awkward. She'd vacationed at Jack's house before. It was a bit unnecessary maybe. Like if Jack and Carol lived in Stamford and Dawn invited Mary Anne to the wedding then that'd be cool. She didn't need to fly across the country for it though. I look at people like Bruce Willis/Demi Moore/Ashton Kutcher and think that is the oddest family ever, but it works for them. Kudos for open minds I guess.

the Barretts needed help with their wedding on the same day which is why all of them couldn't come. I guess it was nice having Mary Anne in California, but Stacey could have gone too though I understand Dawn and Mary Anne are best friends and stepsisters

I figured out why she picked these 3. stacey got into trouble last time she was in california I don't think Stacey's car accident had anything to do with her not going to CA. That was pretty much forgiven and forgotten at the time. I'm pretty sure she would have at least gone as a guest if she hadn't been involved in Mrs. Barrett's wedding.

Stacey and Mrs. Barrett became close when Stacey went to Sea City with the Barretts. This is explained in the book. Also, Dawn was in California at her FATHER'S wedding. No ghostie confusion here, for once.

I don't remember what Dawn was doing that summer, but maybe Mrs. Barrett thought it would be good to have someone around who was familiar with Sea City.

Dawn and Mary Anne were having some sort of camp in Stoneybrook for their charges, I think. And they had that slumber party in their barn.

You're giving me a headache, laylaandmixup. Stacey had to be in Sea City for the whole Toby drama! Just accept the plot points and move on.

^ I agree. Toby might be kind of a dork, especially in SS #10 where he's hitting on 11 YEAR OLDS, but other than that, he's a typical teenage boy. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of the chapters narrated by kids, but I really enjoyed Suzi's chapters in this book. She's fun to read about.

I loved her chapters, too. ;D Even read them outloud to my mom at Christmas because they were so cute. As for Stacey/Mrs. Barrett, I got the idea that Dawn was in Stoneybrook in #10 just for the summer and didn't want to spend all that time as a mother's helper (or maybe wasn't even asked, though I'm sure we would have heard about that from Dawn ;D) and Stacey did but the Pikes didn't need her. Barretts did, though. And also, doesn't she live near the Barretts? So, that relationship is not under question in my mind. ;D

I don't actually remember Suzi's chapters, so I think I'm gonna have to reread this one soon.
And I agree that Toby isn't that bad... until FF #6, where he seems pretty annoying to me.

In FF, Toby was a huge loser. In the other books, he was just a player.

Suzi's and Jeff's chapters are terrific, realistic for their ages. Especially Jeff stressing over Mrs. Bruen losing her job, he's worried about the changes coming.
But how dumb is Mrs. Barrett? When your child asks if Santa will know you moved, you always say YES! Didn't she have to deal with this the first Christmas in Stoneybrook, too? I mean really!
I assume that Jack allowed Dawn to invite a few friends to the wedding, so she chose Mary Ann, Claudia, and Kristy. Not that Jack randomly invited them. It would be awkward to have your ex's stepdaughter at the wedding, but since she's Dawn's friend it's not unbelievable.
Clown lamp: creepiest thing I've ever heard of. I'll bet one of Carol's friends gave them that, after hearing about the crap Carol decorated her place with it sounds like something she might have had.
Also, roast duck? What a weird choice for a wedding! Isn't duck really fatty? You'd think you could feed more people with the turkey.
As for Claudia helping to plan the wedding, I get the impression that Jack was simply looking for a way to let her "help" to work off the plane ticket. She seemed to be running errands more than anything else. She wasn't choosing the food, the food was already chosen and she just had to make some changes. She did choose the flowers, though, but I would bet that Carol and Jack called and said this was how much they wanted to spend, and he just gave choices within that range.
I like to assume that Jack and Carol aren't complete morons, obviously!

I've never heard of turkey being served at a wedding. Usually things are pretty fancy.

I've never heard of it being served either, but Claudia has to go to the caterer and tell him that they changed their mind, they want duck instead of turkey. I assume it's in place of a red meat carving station.
