Noticed this book didn't have a thread, so since it's the only mystery book I like...
a. Whoever wrote this one, THANK YOU for featuring Shea Rodowsky largely! He doesn't get much spotlight in the regular series (the exception being "Claudia's Freind Friend"). Now if the book series just gave Archie his own book...Yeah, I'm a Rodowsky fan. Okay, I do focus on Jackie more, but that's only because the books do! Anyone agree that Archie and Shea deserve some love, too?
b. I remember thinking Mari Drabek was too focused on herself during the competition rather than being focused on both herself and Grace the first time I read this. On my last reread (around 8 years after my first read), I still saw that - all "I"s and "my"s instead of "we"s and "our"s. Was that just because she did most of the work?
c. I'm still trying to work out why the sitters didn't work out earlier that Kyle kept framing Megan. Didn't they find it the tiniest bit suspicious that he kept saying Megan did things? They noticed that Megan's reactions to being "found out" were strange - why couldn't they work out what was going on before?
d. I still think it's kind of weird that they suspected Jackie of sabotage. even if he did keep disappearing. Did they honestly think no one would see a seven-year-old hanging around the kitchens? And remind me what his motive would've been to sabotage Shea's group, Logan's group, and Grace and Mari's group. Besides, they practically acknowledged that would be really OOC for Jackie to do so - he never causes trouble intentionally.
So yeah. It's a good story, but has some interesting problems. I worked out that Kyle was framing Megan long before the sitters did, for one thing. What are your thoughts?
