Haha, I actually saw this this morning. I thought it was kind of funny how Mary Anne made the list. Love her but she's not really cool. And how is Elizabeth above Jessica in coolness? The author says it's because of Jessica's bad girl image. So this is basically the nice girl cool list?

Thanks for sharing. I see Laura Ingalls is in 2nd place. I'll have her in first place.

Ann M. Martin just post it on her facebook. This is what she said:
What a fun article and what an honor for five of the BSC members to be included! Several of my own favorite characters are on the list - first and foremost Eloise! I'm also a huge fan of Harriet, Laura Ingalls, and Lucy Pevensy.

The list is practically my childhood! Well, some of it. Hermione and Ginny are more young adulthood, since I held a grudge against their series for years because I was introduced to it when I was advanced enough to understand it, but too young to like it. But the Pevensie girls, Anne, Harriet, Margaret, Alice, Matilda, Heidi, Pippi and especially Sara are the girls I grew up with and love. This is off-topic, but does anyone think Harriet as a book character was a bit of a hysterical person? I get why she did the things she did, but honestly, she's an eleven-year-old girl and yet half the time she acts like she's half her age. The other half, she's showing adult insight. I remember when she made that list of mean things she would do to each kid - I didn't believe for a minute she'd really find a way to break Janie's finger. And in the movie, notice she didn't do ANYTHING to Rachel and made the mean thing she did in the book into Marion's mean thing? Rachel had more personality in the books. Sorry, totally off-topic. But why is Claudia the coolest BSC member? I would've picked Stacey.

I wouldn't have included MA or Kristy in the list. Mary Anne is my favorite, however I'd never say she was cool. I can see the appeal of Dawn... and I'm personally glad Claudia was considered the coolest. I wanted to be her when I was younger!

I realize it's leading characters. There are some fabulous supporting characters in other books too. Tib Muller in the Betsy-Tacy books is the independent one while Winona Root (of the same) is just plain cool. Ida Brown, Laura Ingalls' friend, is pretty cool too.
