Thanks for the reply, Anzuhana and Starrynight. I skimmed over this one last night and it didn't do much for me overall. I still would have liked some wondering on MA's part about meeting Jack and/or that coming up. Also, I'm guessing Jack gave Stacey permission to go surfing in the first place or was he also not aware of that? We know how (usually) whatever the BSC Member do is okay because they are sooooo mature and grown up. This book was one where Dawn actually said that she was aware of the fact that she and her friends were not true adults.
Oldhickory, Maybe Sharon thought MA would panic even more, deciding to return some of the gifts? So that's why she never mentioned overspending again or to Richard. She should have made a stronger impression on MA about needing to do something to solve the problem. Years later, it really is hard to believe MA had all that loot to begin with.

rereading right now and this part is bugging me. i don't know if someone mentioned it already (i don't feel like reading 23 pages :] ) but in her letter to janine at the start of chapter 12, claudia spells california, tomorrow, universal, disneyland, and woodpecker right. but she misspells how and with. really?

^Does she write "Hi! Who are you?" at the start of her letter? I loved whenever she did that. I think she also sent a card from Camp Mohawk to her parents with "Who are you!" on it. They must have been so proud.

Old Hickory, I had a friend at primary school who misspelled simple words more often than complex ones. She knew this about herself, and would laugh about it. I think it's because she wasn't concentrating most of the time, but when she needed to spell a longer word, she paid attention. It makes sense to me that Claudia would be like this too, since it's often mentioned that her poor performance at school is due to lack of effort.

^that's interesting and could apply to Claudia. I was reading a Nancy Drew book and thought, there are so many "big" words in these, and the characters speak formally, so wouldn't that have helped her with her writing/spelling?...but it is true that she's just a lazy student most of the time.

I finished reading this one! It wasn't one I had read as a kid, and I felt like I was missing out because it had always seemed like the fan favorite Super Special to me. But everything there is to say about the book has already been said, so I'll just leave this:

I had forgotten that Claudia actually asked her parents "Who they were" (and apparently did so twice). I know she asked that of Mimi and I believe also Janine, but her parents? You'd think she'd be more careful writing to them.
I can't believe that Carol chaufferred those girls every which way for a week. That was sure nice and/or crazy of her! "Palo City" (if in Anaheim) is a good hour+ from Hollywood and (so there Dawn) probably over 2 hours to Magic Mountain. Speaking of Dawn, apparently she had no problem with the "Dolphin Act." I forgot if that was supposed to be at MM or Knotts.
I really can't believe, well besides the whole lottery thing and also that Jack let Stacey go surfing to begin with, was how much money those girls must have really had (and that their families allowed them to spend all of it in CA). Even back then bigger theme park tickets cost in the $40's for one day to say nothing of food or souvenirs.
