I liked the mystery that Dawn found about the Bayard family. I would've liked for the mystery to get solved. I feel that the pendant that Dawn found could have been left there for her, somehow. I like how the BSC members spent the night on the island. I liked reading Sam's chapter as well because it was interesting to read from his perspective. It was interesting to read about why he was bothering Stacey.

The Sam and Stacey stuff was really fun. David Michael and Karen were really cute with their little rivalry, but I have such a hard time reading their chapters because of the short, simple sentences and no use of contractions... I don't know why, but that drives me batty.
Dawn was SO Dawn with all the mystery stuff. The actually mystery was pretty interesting, but she quickly irked me with her overzealousness.
I felt bad for Mallory though. Her story was funny in that sort of everyday way.

^Mallory's life seems so sucky compared to the other BSCers sometimes. Did Ann ever make any references to the Mary Tyler Moore show? Mallory reminds me of Rhoda.

I laughed at Jessi saying she thought Daniel was going to "profess his love" for her at the lodge dance. But I felt bad for her when she found out he had a girlfriend and only thought of Jessi as a friend. I can't remember everything she said, but I kind of remember her bringing up Quint, and saying something about she knew how Daniel felt about her, etc. So embarassing!
I also liked Sam's chapters a lot. It was cute reading about the Sam/Stacey relationship from his perspective. And I loved him snarking on Andrew's little "gummity gummity whoop" song.

I liked this book a lot! I love the Sam chapter. It was nice to read from a guy teenager perspective I found it so bizarre that the girls were allowed to stay on that island overnight with just a boat that could bring 4 people back. Who the heck would chose to stay behind if something was happening. "Hey guys just hide in the bushes and I'll be right back...?". I typically don't like Karen, but I liked in this one that she saw how upset DM was and didn't rag on him. They even let them play in the playhouse. It would have been nice for them to go back to the lake at some point during the series (even if it was just Kristy and fam). This way they could solve the mystery.

^I really wish we had gotten to read about the families on vacation minus the BSC Members. I know some of the LS books feature the TB's by themselves (I still need to look for them) but in general. I get the selling feature of the BSC, was the BSC, but the characters might have been more endearing had they also had more family time.

Some of them did go back to Shadow Lake in Baby-sitters Beware. Unfortunately, the mystery isn't brought up, so it isn't solved.

^And I don't think Dawn ever corresponds with Stephan either. That was one instance where I didn't mind Dawn. I mean I enjoyed reading about her convos with Stephan NOT about her constant Lake Monster thoughts.

^Did you always like the Dawn/Stephan stuff, zoar? I remember not being interested in that at all as a kid because Stephan was old, and therefore, had to be boring But now I think it's nice, especially at the end when he writes Dawn a letter (I know everyone writes everyone in the epilogues, but still...) I thought it was nice that he wanted to tell her about the dream he had.

^I honestly don't remember BooBoo. Remember I was older than most of you when the BSC first came out and didn't read all that many of the Series at that time. I always loved the Kristy/Mr. Staples scenes from SS#1. Maybe this was just one book where Dawn, someone I generally don't like much, was better. I just thought Stephan sounded down to earth and like a good guy.

My bad, it wasn't a dream Stephan had, but a vision while he was working. Just reread this one. I want a two week vacation at a lakeside cabin now The diary entries don't come across as too forced, and if I were Watson I would have enjoyed reading about the kids' experiences at the lake, but Kristy kind of ruins it by interjecting all the time with her "Hey Watson, notice how..." Liked when Nancy said she has no little brother or sister to boss around in the chapter where Mary Anne lets the Musketeers pretend they're sitting for her. In the LS SS that includes the lake trip, Nancy learns her mom is expecting a baby. Claudia says she'll wear six cameras around her neck as part of her tourist costume--sounds like a drowning accident waiting to happen--but in the illustration she has...none. And for some reason Dawn is sitting next to her with a Polaroid. Visiting a possibly haunted island sounds straight out of a Nancy Drew book. The island/Bayard mystery stuff is actually spookier than I remembered...a family living in isolation disappears one night in a storm and some time later their house burns down? Yikes. Love how Mal suggested an alien abduction. There's a part in one of Jessi's chapters that sounds a lot like what Stacey says at the end of Bad Girls...she (Jessi) says her friends aren't perfect and that Kristy is bossy, Claudia's a slob, Mal can be annoying, etc. Quoteworthy stuff: Dawn: "Now I know how truckers sometimes feel." Mary Anne: “I recognize true love when I see it." Andrew: "I do not like people barfing in my lap."

Reading this after a pile of years and now I'm reminded of places in the Thousand Islands, since we live up here these days.

I was just thinking about the whole Stacey/Sam thing, and I'm pretty sure that this is the only Super Special romance that actually continued once the book ended. I know that Claudia and Will kept in touch after Camp Mohawk, but he's never mentioned until she's at the ski lodge and feels guilty for crushing on her older ski intructor. It makes sense that Stacey and Sam would be the only vacation relationship to last, since none of the other girls ever lived near theirs.

their relationship was also a big plot point in starring the bsc, so i tend to think of them as a SS-only relationship anyway :]

Bringing this thread back is inspiring me to give this another re-read. I think I'm going to read it tomorrow
