One thing that stands out for me in this book is when Karen is eating her apple and commenting on how it was sliding around in her hands (because her hands were sweaty from just playing). Grossss! Ever heard about washing your hands before you eat, Karen?

^lol, I had just a few LS books growing up, including this one, and so with the ones I owned, I reread them over and over. I remember this scene of Karen eating around the smudges on her apple SO CLEARLY.

Yeah I remember that too, and that lunch was totally recycled from Karen's Kittycat Club

I also remember Karen singing,"Oh how I want to be a lovely, lovely lady. That is what I truly want to be" (or something similar) to the tune of the Oscar Meijer Weiner jingle which Karen says are her "favourite hot-dogs".

Does it say it's to the melody of that? I can't remember
I liked her first tea party too before the first day of charm school. Nancy and Andrew were making me laugh.

Throughout this book I kept thinking of the Leave it to Beaver Episode where Beaver and Larry ditch dancing school to ride a pony, IIRC. I would have much preferred that choice to dancing school. I did find it strange how mesmerized all the girls seemed to by the Charm School. And was it just me or did Martin Peabody, the teenage piano player, come across as a little odd? I don't know why he did, possibly because he was never given any dialog. I could have also done without Karen constantly telling us about all the burping. It was maybe (not really) funny the first time but afterwards not so much. The saving moment for me was Andrew asking for Pasketti. I do love how "Please pass the pasketti" is the headline on the back cover.

Actually that was a typo on the cover and in the book. One time, it was written as pisgetti, and another time pasketti, I always laughed at that I really thought one or two of the girls, Pamela or Natalie would not be enjoying charm school as much as Karen and Hannie, just the way Stacey and Laine hated it when they went for ballroom dancing in NYC. It's very likely it was inspired by Leave It To Beaver since it's from the 50's and so is Ann Was anyone else tempted to try Karen's recipes properly after reading this book? Or throw a tea party?

^ once when I was 9 but it didn't last long. I have to admit this is a fun book though. I love the dress shopping part and the final dance.

The recipes or the tea party? For me it was the tea party. I already had a little ceramic tea set with hearts for a few years, but it was even more fun after I read this book. I wanted to throw a fancy tea party for my friends, but was spoiled anyways every time I had a birthday party close to summer so felt that throwing something big like that would be too much, so I did it for my dolls and bears

He and Andrew would have gotten along...and had another burping contest!
