Re-reading the books, I think Kristy's family is Italian on her mum's side...just a feeling I get.

Just a feeling I have reading the books...I think once Kristy's mum once mentioned an Italian great-aunt or something and in one of the Little Sister books, when Karen's big house family has pasta for dinner, Karen wishes they could all speak Italian and wonders what Italy is like. |
