I thought the mixing of religious celebration was brilliant

I thought so too . But this book was just so sad with Nannie breaking her hip and all and then Karen wishing that she would get better, total tearjerker . I'm glad she came home at the end okay, even though I knew she would be! ;D

I also like how it fits in between two regular LS books.

I recently re read this book at Christmas, and I liked it a lot. I liked how Nannie would just get better. I think it showed how sweet Karen can be.

I loved how Karen and Nancy were Bobbsey Twins fanatics and searched everywhere for #53 The Bobbsey Twins in the Mystery Cave. They sounded like so many of us on this board searching for BSC books. ;D
The Baby-Grow-a-Tooth doll that everyone wanted sounded creepy. You pushed her arms together and she grew front teeth.
I can't believe all the religious stuff in this book, but in a good way. It is just surprising to know that Karen knows the Jesus side of Christmas and her family actually read part of the Bible. Every other LS Christmas book is SANTA AND PRESENTS, PRESENTS, PRESENTS!!!!
I like the little activity book stuff at the end of all the super specials.

Does Grandma B show up in this one? This would take place after LS #10, so the Dawes family should have had her with them for at least some of their Chanukkah celebrations.

Lol, you're so right! They do sound like us when we're searching for BSC books. I never even made that connection until now ;D. And I agree about the Baby-Grow-a-Tooth doll being creepy, but if that had been around when I was a kid, I most likely would've bought it ;D.

Wasn't there a doll in the 80s that grew?

I think there was. I think I either wanted it or got it, I don't remember. I loved this book as a kid. It was always one of my favourites. I loved reading about the Hanukkah celebrations, since I didn't know much about it. And I thought the part when Karen and Nancy both got each other the same present was amazing (though to be fair, I was only about six when I read it the first time ). This one always takes me back and gets me into the Christmas spirit whenever I read it. I read Karen's New Year for the first time in several years the other day. I was surprised that I never picked up on the fact that it was set after that particular Christmas (I didn't read the books in order). Whoever wrote New Year got all the details right, down to what Karen and Andrew got for Christmas. I liked that. ;D

^ Absolutely- that book opens with Karen talking about playing with her Christmas gifts. And wearing them.

I had a doll that grew hair?
Yes, Karen being upset about Nannie was a tear jerker, I felt bad for Lisa, not knowing what to do.

They had funny dolls like that in the early 90's. Remember Little Miss Makeup, Cupcake Dolls and water babies?
I looooved reading about all the presents they got at hannukhah and christmas, the snow day, making the ornaments and the crafts in school. The activities were fun too, and I always wanted to do them but never got a chance cause no one would buy me what I wanted.

I felt bad for Karen. I liked the ending when Nannie was able to come home on Christmas.
