I wish I were half as popular with boys now as Stacey was at 13.

Kristy: how she seemed to forget about David Michael after Karen, Andrew, and Emily Michele came in the picture. I wonder if he ever felt resentful about how much Kristy played with and cuddled the Brewer children and EM. Thinking too much again. Mary Anne: I've said this before on the MA thread-I think she used tears to manipulate people. she would say something bitchy to someone, they would get pissed and yell at her, and MA would start crying, causing the other person to apologize. Claudia-I agree with what Songheim said upthread. it irritates me that Claudia excels at every new art form she tries, and never dedicates herself to one thing. all the arty people I knew-even in jr high-had found their niche and focused their talents in that area. Stacey-I never realized how spoiled and elitist she could be until getting into this fandom. Actually, her character scares me quite a bit if I try to "unpack" the series so I shut my mind to it. Dawn-Can you feel sorry for a fictional character's development over the course of a series? I hope so, because that's how I feel about Dawn. It seems like after the writers used up all the initial ideas for her, they tried to make her as unlikeable and messed up as possible.

Kristy's bossiness was the main thing that annoyed me. She acted like she was queen!

I wonder if he ever felt resentful about how much Kristy played with and cuddled the Brewer children and EM. I never noticed it before, but you're right. I always liked the DM/Kristy bond in the earlier books, and I wish we'd seen more of it.

Kristy - How she was such a tyrant when it came to running the club. It was always her way, no matter what. She took things way too seriously as the series went on; in the beginning, she still knew how to have fun. But giving someone the stink eye for coming in a minute late (even Jessi, who's rushing over from her dance classes in Stamford), blowing up at Mallory for turning down jobs because she doesn't feel well, making Dawn feel awful like she's abandoning the club by moving to CA for a few months. She could also be really nasty to Mary Anne, who I thought was supposed to be her BFF.
Dawn - How self-righteous and holier-than-thou she became. I have many vegetarian friends and they've never scolded any of us for eating meat in front of them. Also, how she would complain about the girls eating candy and other sweets at meetings, saying how they're going to rot their teeth. Claudia is nice enough to provide crackers and pretzels as an alternative for you, so shut up.
Mary Anne - She cried way too much and over the stupidest things (Mallory and Jessi's lame induction 'ceremony'). And while I love whenever she let her inner b*tch out (like smashing the teacup when Dawn announced she was moving back to CA), she could be pretty rotten. Telling Dawn to go choke on an alfalfa sprout, then quickly running back behind her "Sweet, innocent Mary Anne" facade...she isn't so sensitive as everyone makes her out to be!
Stacey - I don't give a crap what you delude yourself into, Stacey. Being from NYC does not automatically make you grown-up and sophisticated. I'm a native New Yorker (briefly lived in NYC too!) and I don't carry myself with an air of sophistication. And, being a native New Yorker, it drove me NUTS that she always referred to NYC as "The Big Apple." New Yorkers don't use that term unless they want to look lame.
Claudia - I never liked how nasty she was to Janine. I think they really could have gotten along well, and it felt like Janine would try and reach out occasionally, but Claudia just didn't want anything to do with her.
In general, I hate how the girls are TERRIFIED of upsetting Kristy. The fact that they cower in fear of getting one of her Looks...what is she doing to exert so much power over them? One reason I liked Abby is how she never let this affect her.
Oh, and how they had rules that were only of importance when the plot called for it. Like how they all flip out at Wendy for accepting jobs from a family that she's always sat for instead of offering the job around to the other sitters. So if Claudia gets called in on emergency by the Newtons or someone, she has to call everyone to make sure it's ok she takes the job?
Finally (because this post is getting long lol), I don't like how they all shriek "EW EW EW EW EWWWW!!!!!!" when the Prezziosos call up, and how no one will willingly sit for Jenny except Mary Anne. They act like she's such a horrible child - I think she's one of the most realistic charges they have. So she's high-maintenance and picky - she's FOUR, a lot of four-year-olds are picky. They're always so shocked that she doesn't like playing outside or getting all messy. When I was little, I was the same way. I would freak out if I got magic marker on my hands or a grass stain on my clothes or something. The BSC would hate me if I was one of their charges heh.
Wow - looking at this post, I sound so bitter! I'm really not, honest! Re-reading the books is making me more aware of things I didn't pay much attention to before.

To be fair, Dawn insulted her first by saying she had clown makeup and boy hair Telling her to choke on her sprouts was well-deserved, lol. Word. Jenny's the product of her mother, what do they expect? Are all the charges supposed to enjoy rolling around in the mud without a care? I thought Jenny was one of the more interesting kids in Stoneybrook. I don't think you sound bitter ;D I think a lot of posters, including me, have complaints similar to these.

What annoyed me is how Dawn is always described as an individual, when she's obviously not one. For someone that's supposed to be an individual, she had no problem changing herself for two boys and caring about what people thought about her.

One thing that annoyed me about everyone but Dawn is when they would describe her style as "California Casual" and then their example would be her wearing a shirt with the tails out. She didn't tuck her shirts in. Big freaking deal. Were Claudia and Stacey shoving their gigantic man-shirts into their spandex bike shorts and skin-tight leggings? I certainly hope not. They just made it sound like everyone in Stoneybrook dressed like Richard Spier except for laid-back Dawn.

I guess I can really find something that annoyed me about each sitter:
Kristy: How bossy she was and how she acted like everyone should treat the club like it's their life. It reminds me of the partners at the firm I work at who expect us to work 70 hours a week just because they do. Claudia: How should would spell the same word wrong in different ways in the same notebook entry. Seriously, Claudia? Mary Anne: How she would always use her sensitivity to get people to feel bad for her when they got mad. Stacey: How her thirteen year old self was in LUV about ten times during the course of the series. Also, how she thought she was the shiz just cause she grew up in New York. Dawn: How she got all uppity when anyone ate meat or something sugary. It's their body, let them eat what they want. Mallory: She's Mallory. Nuff said. Jessi: How she'd always play the race card. And how at eleven she'd already starred as the lead in Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, etc. etc.

Mary Anne: How she would always use her sensitivity to get people to feel bad for her when they got mad. ^ I remember this and was so glad when Richard called her out on it in Dawn's Family Feud (about the whole radio on/off episode). And Dawn. I live in California and blondes are one of the rarest things here!

Haha, i loved reading these, these are all the same things that drive me nuts about the girls, as much as i love them.
I mainly hated how Stacey and Claudia acted like they were worlds apart from the other girls, how Mary anne and Kristy were "still playing with dolls" when junior high started and Claudia needed a best friend. and found one in the oh-so "sophisticated" Stacey who took the subway to school alone at the age of 10. i doubt it. and
and the Jessi/Mallory thing drove me nuts, how they thought 13 was so fantastic compared to 11. and how all they dreamed about was wearing high top sneakers and sparkly tops, in comparison to the loafers and sweaters their parents made them wear. haha.

Mary Anne: Could be really passive-agressive and while I know I can do the same at times, it just irritates me. If you're mad, then come right out and be mad. She also needed to seriously grow a spine sometimes. Kristy: She was bossy to the point of tyrannical sometimes. I think more than one BSC fight was started by her treating them so rudely. And seriously, death stares if someone is a minute late? Get a freaking life, things happen in this world. If someone showed up half way through the meeting without a good enough reason, then yes get annoyed. Stacey: "I grew up in NY there for I am just better than all of you country hicks in every way" seems to be the message I get from Stacey. From what I've heard about CT anyway, it's nothing to exactly frown upon! Claudia: Janine seemed to seriously try to make an effort with Claud and Claud most of the time just threw it back in her face because she couldn't see Janine as a person with feelings. Also, if she was supposedly of above average intelligence application or not she wouldn't be such a terrible student. :/ Dawn: For someone who was such an individual and didn't care about what others thought, at times she really did to the point of sacrificing who she was. And she didn't always seem to be as cool, calm, collected as we were meant to think. Mallory: She went on and on about how her parents treated her like such a baby - at the end of the day she was 11 and there were 8 kids and only 2 parents, they couldn't all have everything (especially contact lenses and a freaking nose job!) Jessi: I only saw evidence of this in one book, but she seemed to think it was more important to do what would make her seem 'cool' to the other kids than what she thinks is right -- she has to, she's black after all.

I noticed somethng about them, they all seem to be overachievers and then when something gets very tough they blame the parent of the charges, not themselves. Like, in Dawn and the Impossible Three, Dawn herself took it upon her to start cleaning the house and Mrs Barrett never told her or asked her too. Dawn wanted to be super sitter to show Kristy she can. Later in the book she silently thinks of all the work she's doing at a baby sitting price, not a mother helper price. SHE started it In Maid Mary Anne that happened to her with that old lady too, she started doing more and more then got cross later. I know there's more incidents where the girls bite off more than they can handle then forget they brought it on them. I'll come around to em, i'm sure
