i know how traumatic it is to find out that mary anne spyer is in fact mary anne spier. your head wants to explode. HAHAHA! Completely agree!!! I think I was 18 when I found out how it was really pronounced and I was mind blown! I still pronounce it spy-er, and I dont think I will ever stop

I so like Spy-er better. I've always thought it's Spy-er...is that how it is pronounced on the books on tape?

How, Spyer or Speer? I don't know about the books on tape but the pronunciation is in some of the books. For example Stacey says that MA's last name "rhymes with cheer, not crier" in Stacey in the Bad Girls, I think.

I always said Spy-er too, but there was some book (I don't remember which), where Logan calls MA's bouts of crying "Spier's Tears".

How do you guys pronounce the name of Claudia's 7th grade friend, Shira Epstein? Is the first name Shear-ruh, Shy-ruh, or Shee-ruh? Is the last name Epst-een or Epst-eye-n? I've always said Shear-uh Epst-eye-n, but it occured to me recently that there are other possiblities.

^^The only Shira I've heard of before was Shira Epstein, Logan's mother on Gilmore Girls. I've heard Epstein pronounced both ways. That being said, I've always pronounced her name Sheer-uh Ep-steen.

I used to say "Shee," but now I'm pretty sure it's "Shay."

I say Shay. Like Stadium (RIP). Hey, I just got the reference! (I think Ann's a Mets fan.)
