I've always said it as Shay.

I used to say it as She-uh. Which would be a really horrible name.

I always said Sheer-uh but I think I've heard it pronounced Shy-ruh too. Not sure. I said She-uh until I heard the name IRL. Same with Jay-nine/Ja-neen

I think I always remember pronouncing it like Shay, although I could be wrong, at one point or another I totally pronounced everyone's names wrong.

I used to say it as She-uh. Which would be a really horrible name. I used to say She-uh, too, until I saw the movie "Little Giants." In that movie, the main character's surname is O'Shea and they pronounced it Oh-shay so I figured "Shea" would be pronounced the same!

I must have mentally mispronounced Shea at one point, but I guess I ran across Shea Stadium and figured it out pretty early, because it's not as ingrained as Spy-er.

I always thought that too redhead311. I also used to mispronounce Dawn and Mary Anne's last names!

I used to do the She-uh pronounciation also, until I looked the name up online (it's Irish) and the pronounciation key said it's said Shay.

I pronounced it She-uh too, until I heard the Shay pronounciation on TV. It's a cool name. Certainly better than Archibald.

I pronounced it She-uh too, until I heard the Shay pronounciation on TV. It's a cool name. Certainly better than Archibald. MNy great-grandfather was an Archibald, and he hated it. Needless to say there's no one named after him in our family.

I had heaps of them. Surprised a lot of other people pronounced "David Mitchell" as well, because I did it only because I went to school with a David Mitchell so that name just kept popping in my head instead every time I saw it and didn't really know how to spell Michael at the time.
"Spier" was always Spy-er to me, even after hearing it in the movie I kept reading it that way because like others, I thought it had been mispronounced (it actually used to make me angry every time I saw it!) Then I saw it confirmed, but it's so deeply intrenched in my brain as spy-er that even though I know it's incorrect, I continue to read it that way.
I had problems with 'Papadakis' and 'gigundo' too, but remember just asking mum one day what they were.
I also did the 'Johnson / Johannsen' thing. I know Johnson wasn't right, but I just couldn't make Johannsen out of it..

Oh, so Spier is pronounced as "Speer"? Wow. I never knew that. I've been pronouncing it as "SPY-er" all this time.
And I also used to pronounce Dawn's last name as "SHAH-fur" until I realized it was "SHAY-fur".
For some reason, I just never got to pronounce "Rodowsky" in my mind (I always skipped reading that name). It was until I got to watch an episode of the BSC TV series that I learned how to pronounce it. It's pronounced as "Roh-DOW-skee" or "Ruh-DOW-skee".
Speaking of Rodowsky, I used to mispronounce "Shea" since I have a cousin (she's a girl by the way) named Shea and she pronounces her name as "SHEE-yah". But after watching some BSC episodes, I learned that it was pronounced as "Shay". Weird.
And oh, for some reason, I pronounce Jenny's last name as "Pretzi-O-so". You know, like "pizza" (pronounced as "peet-za"). Though, I do sometimes find myself my pronouncing it as "Prezzy-O-soh".
Another thing. How do pronounce "Johansen"? I pronounce it as "Yo-Hansen" but I may be wrong. Though, most of the time, I do pronounce it as "Jo-Hansen".

^ Johansen could be "Yo-hansen", I think; I know it Africaanz (pretty sure that's not spelt right, but anyway) the j is a y - and is it German, too? I think it might be. Anyway, I always wondered about whether it was said with a y, too. We have a butchery here called Jansens, but all the South Africans say "YAN-sens" so I ended up calling it that, too. I used to think, when I was about seven, that Mary Anne's last name was Spider. Seriously. For the longest time, to me, she was "Mary Anne Spider". Then I read it over when I was about thirteen I think, and it took me AGES to learn to say Spy-er. And then I found out it was said "speer"! I'm sticking with Spy-er!

I don't think this one's been posted: Claudia's photography teacher, Mr. Geist. When I was little, I thought it was pronounced with a soft g like "gee-st."
