I remember reading Stacey and the Missing Ring and feeling really weird when Stacey's mum was saying how sexy Cary Grant was and Stacey was like "Err no, he's not" and wouldn't watch the movie 'Holiday' because it was in black and white... I felt weird because I like Cary Grant and love black and white movies ;D Eventually they rented out 'Gone With The Wind' (another popular Ann referance) and Stacey was like "Yay it's in colour!" Meh, then again my friends tease me for my love of black and white films! I don't remember that. And I'm speechless, my opinion of Stacey just went down a few notches. I adore Carey Grant too.

In Karen's Bad Day, Karen threw a hissy fit because Mr. Ed wasn't on and their grandmother sent Andrew a copy of the Secret of NIMH Mary Anne and Logan argued over whether to see The Music Man or Halloween 3 in Mary Anne vs. Logan Sabrina Bouvier the younger sang Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany's, Myriah sang Shirley Temple's On the Good Ship Lollipop, and Claire did a Popeye song for the Little Miss Stoneybrook pageant Sharon gave Richard a Simpsons undershirt for the underwear race in Dawn's Big Move. That inspired the Arnold twins to give their dad Garfield boxers. One of the Craine girls had a Simpsons sleeping bag in Mallory and the Ghost Cat When Marilyn Arnold was building her time machine she talked about Back to the Future, and her list of supplies included a flux capicitator The X-Men were mentioned in Stacey's Secret Friend. Some of the kids harassing Tess started calling her Petunia, a reference to Porky Pig's girlfriend. What a bunch of jerks. Jessi's class did skit about Star Trek and Jessi dressed like a Klingon in Horrible Prank I remember Meatballs being mentioned a lot, and the Hard Rock Cafe appeared in a lot of the NYC books

I've noticed in the higher numbered books they started mentioning more current for that time stuff, like Ninja Turtles and other cartoons. Karen mentioned that she didn't like cartoons except for Muppet Babies. I loved Muppet Babies, lol. Jason Priestley was mentioned at least twice which totally cracked me up. That's the kind of pop culture stuff I like reading about even if it does date the books more.

I remember the Jason Priestly references! In Stacey vs. the BSC Claudia tells Stacey that "the new Jason Priestly movie" was out. I remember thinking that Jason Priestly was too old for them to squee! over.
I just checked Wikipedia and Jason Priestly was born in 1969.

^Luke Perry was a hottie! I loved him in 8 Seconds.
I didn't know On the Good Ship Lollipop was a Shirley Temple reference, but I totally should have, because there's a Halloween episode of Full House where Jesse and Joey dress up in pink dresses and are wearing blonde curly wigs, and they sing that song.

I'm shocked that Marilyn was allowed to see Back to the Future.

There's a lot of sexual references and foul language in that.

I remember all the michael jackson references, I love his music too!
Captain EO (though the name wasn't mentioned) was brought up in Baby Sitters on Board and Dawn on the Coast. And yes, I saw it too at Disney World when I was a little kid!
I remember in Claudia Kishi Live at WSTO, someone sang Ben. In Poor Mallory, the Pike Kids started singing We Are the World and the dad told them to shut up. In Claudia and the Mystery at the Museum, Claire Pike said she's going to be famous like Roseanna and Michael Jackson. Stacey said she wants to learn the moonwalk in her portrait collection chapter about her adventures with Laine.
They all love Gone With The Wind, which had been brought up a few times.
Stacey was talking about her mom being a Beatles fan and how people called her Paula cause of Paul McCartney, in the Stacey and the Bad Girls book.
In Stacey and the Mystery at the mall, one of the kids mallory was reading to at the bookstore was wearing a Barney T-Shirt, though I wasn't sure whether it was referring to the Dinosaur (who was popular then) or someone else
Mary Anne talked about Belle from Beauty and the Beast walking and reading at the same time in her portrait collection and how the movie wasn't out yet when she was doing that too.
Kristy described Stacey as looking like Madonna, and Shannon like Meryl Streep

Hahaha that never gets old for me ;D Yeah, her cheekbones reminded her of Meryl Streep's. I think it's nice that Kristy often was really complimentary of her friends' looks when she was describing them -- she also says she'd "kill" for Claudia's creamy skin. It would have been cool if Shannon had often been compared to MS in the books, similar to Logan always being compared to a (fake) famous person. Young Meryl Streep was really pretty IMO.
