I always assumed that Ellen Miles and Nora Thacker and such were just like...her bffs or something. I didn't know they WROTE the books. Sheesh, imagine my surprise when I came here.

Haha, same here. I was all, wow, that Peter Lerangis guy gets thanked all the time...! About this book: like many of you said it sounds quite depressing. I haven't read it for that reason I guess. Geez, what a sad note to end the regular series on (and I feel terrible for Mary Anne and Dawn and Mary Anne losing some memories of her mom...because doesn't she?) ETA: Yeah, just checked further back on the thread and that seems to be the case. So sad

^ Totally agree and glad I'm not the only one who thought that AMM must really like Peter Lerangis. I thought he was maybe her boyfriend or something ;D I guess I need to just reread this one since I keep talking about it and have only read it once but I have to wait until I'm in the right kind of mood - don't know if it should be a good or bad mood, though, because it depresses me so much. Wonder why they had to end the series like this. It should have been one of those books where all is tied up with a happy ending. That would seem to make more sense in keeping with the rest of the BSC books, anyway.

in the book tehy were entering some kind of competition for the best sitters in the country something from a magazine, and they got all wrapped in the fire at MAry Anne's that they weren't able to finish the project, and the kids ended up helping out and doing it for them.... does anyone know if this got updated on or not? if they won or not?

^ Don't remember but I'm sure they won ;D Maybe not, though, since this one is so different it seems from the other BSC books where all ends well.

I just read this book for the first time yesterday and while I liked it, I hated how abrupt the ending was. Nothing got resolved really. I understand it was all about moving on, but considering in the next book (the first Friends Forever special) the club basically falls apart (after they're all nominating themselves for Baby-sitter of the year) I didn't think it was a very good way to end the series. I think it deserved better.
And you'd think ANM would want to write the last book herself! But no!

^ Totally agree about the abrupt ending. I was kind of like "are they moving or not"? Also think they should have ended the series in a much better way (and a happier, more positive one ;D) Anyway...I finally reread for the second time and was just as depressed by it as the first time. The whole book has a final/fatalistic feel to it for me. Even the stuff about the kids gives me the feeling of looking back on something, which is what it is. I don’t like to think of the BSC as ending or changing so that’s why I don’t like this book. The fire stuff also freaks me out. Right now, I’m feeling very paranoid about it after reading this book ;D It would be so awful to lose all of my stuff. I didn’t hate this book but it just really depresses me. For that reason, I think it’s one of my least favorites to read.

This book is very depressing, that's why I've been reluctant to read it again. I can totally relate to Mary Anne's feelings though and even understood why she couldn't cry over everything at first. A lot of times I can cry easily over the little things but major things I can't. I'm glad she was able to let it all out though towards the end of the book.

^ Agree about the crying. Sometimes I feel like I will cry over absolutely nothing but I can usually hold it really together during major stuff. I was also glad to see this addressed in a book and happy MA let it out. I'm still feeling bad over this one, so I need to go read some happy books where the series is just beginning or in full swing ;D It never did say if they were going to move, did it? (Maybe I was just skimming by that time though ;D)

I bet they already knew they would resolve the moving thing in the FF series, and were hoping that by leaving that unanswered, that people would get into the new series.

^ That's what I assumed, too, which is why it bugged me since I absolutely don't want to read the FF series (don't like change ;D)

I bet they already knew they would resolve the moving thing in the FF series, and were hoping that by leaving that unanswered, that people would get into the new series. I really don't like it when stuff like that happens. Maybe it's just me, but when that kind of thing happens - not resolving everything completely so the audience will read the new series, or watch the new spinoff tv show - it seems to cheapen the experience of reading the last book. Kinda ruins the integrity of the series, too, when they won't tell you the ending to make you invest in the new series. They could've ended it nicely without making us feel like we need to read FF to find out how everything is resolved.

^ Agree. The worst thing that happens is when they leave you hanging with the intention to do a spin off, new series, or continue it and then don't. That's why I felt like they should have wrapped things up with this one, too, even though they did end up doing a new series. But if they wouldn't, it would have been even worse. I really lacked a feeling of closure when reading this one. But I guess I didn't want one, either, because I just didn't want the series to end ;D

I think this is the only BSC book in the regular series I haven't read. I'm terrified of fire, and so I'm sure reading about it would lead me to spend hours freaking out about the wiring in my house.

I know, I'm also terrified of fire, hence why I'm not fond of this book. I've been terrified since I was little and even now, I flinch when I'm just lighting a candle!
