This cover seems weird to me. It looks like the family lives in a townhouse because it appears they have no front yard; their steps come out directly on the sidewalk. Not how I picture Stoneybrook houses. Looks more like New York apartment, the way front steps are, instead of Connecticut house.

I had a pair of boots exactly like Ashley's that I wore all the time. It was 1994.
I used to think that was Jackie on the cover and wondered why he shrunk. Lol.

^It's Archie on the cover? And Jeff has a way of shrinking especially on the awful cover of Island Adventure and possibly on page 23 of BSC in USA if that is supposed to be Jeff and not Andrew. There's a better photo of Jeff rock climbing on page 146. At least there he looks closer to 10.

^I know Jackie has a big part in the book with the head sculpture and all, but I think it's Archie on the cover. He's so little and Claudia has her arm around him like she doesn't want him to roll down the stairs. (Yeah, that could still be Jackie. )

^That's the scary part because it probably is supposed to be Jackie.

Bad Claudia for making a friend outside the BSC (note I'm being sarcastic here) and I actually liked Ashley. Why did they label her as weird for having different taste in clothes and a passion for art?
Anyway a classic book and reread it last night. I realized I didn't have it in my collection of eBooks (from Amazon of course) so had to download it from Amazon last night.

I did too!
That's middle school for you. A new kid who doesn't dress like everyone else is bound to be gossiped about.

I had those boots, too. It was the grunge era.

That was Dawn just a few books before this, and the BSC didn't treat her the way they treat Ashley here. So that's just another instance of how everyone at SMS is either friends with the club or completely uncool. No in between.

I don't think Dawn dressed in any out of the ordinary way. Did she? The only thing that stood out about her was her long hair.

Dawn was also supposed to be fairly cool and friendly to everyone. Ashley was cold and aloof and really didn't act like she could be bothered to fit in. I think people who act like that are as bad as people who exclude others.

Dawn wore a straw hat once, does that count?

This cover seems weird to me. It looks like the family lives in a townhouse because it appears they have no front yard; their steps come out directly on the sidewalk. Not how I picture Stoneybrook houses. Maybe its the back yard, going onto a patio? The doors kind of look like back doors more than front doors.
