I just finished re-reading this one. For some reason, it was one of the ones I read a lot as a child. As an adult, I feel bad for Dawn, but I'm not entirely sure Travis is meant to be the villain Dawn and the girls think he is. I mean, yeah, it's kinda weird that he somehow found her address and showed up at her house out of nowhere, but what if he was genuinely trying to be friendly with a kid who had a similar experience to him, and Dawn was the one who got completely confused and over-reacted about everything? I mean, I totally see how Dawn could let herself get carried away, but I dunno if Travis is really quite the jerk the girls paint him as. He's probably just super confused haha

I'm reading Dawn and the Older Boy right now and I call this book a filler book, given how weird everything is and how out of character Dawn is.
I wonder would the plot of the book be better off if it was Stacey or Claud who developed a crush on Travis.

He's probably just super confused haha I think I agree, I think what happened was Travis just assumed the age difference would make it clear that he was trying to be friendly but wasn't romantically interested in her and he didn't consider she might be attracted to him or misunderstand his actions.

Dawn definately needs a restraining order in this book and Stacey vs the BSC. Her constant stalking is annoying.

This book was just a weird one. lol. Travis talked to her once, for a short time, and decided she needed a makeover. Why? For what purpose? It was presumptuous of him to tell her how to dress after meeting her basically. I get it was supposed to be a warning to the young girls who read the books but it's still weird. Usually if something like that happens, it happens over time, not the second time they see each other. And I couldn't understand what exactly Dawn thought was so cool about him besides him being from California, lol. And he only mentioned liking granola once, that doesn't mean they had that much in common. And she's clearly not into sports. It just came off weird and out of character. All girls get crushes like that, but it's was just written strangely.
I did like the stuff with the play. It sounded funny and cute. And it was definitely the highlight of the book.

Dawn looks pretty. France loves yellow outfits. No. He looks like a preditor. I wonder what "Buddys" means on Dawn's shirt. Titles: Betty and the impossible love Diane’s love at first sight Dawn and the perfect Californian (Ew, no)

Travis looks like he could be her father on the last cover. Regardless, he does have a creepy, predator vibe to him.

Ha, she's in yellow in all those covers. It's a good color for her.

This book IS really weird. I hated Travis right away, and he gave me major creepy vibes. The thing that freaked me out a bit is when he stopped by her house and gave her a gift. How did he know where she lived? I just peeked at the book again to see if maybe he drove her home (or he went with Charlie who drove her home) and that's how he knew. Any other way is too disturbing. Charlie, Kristy (I HOPE not), or Sam told him, or he looked it up. If that's the case, not cool.
I think things like that stick out to me in these books because I live in a high-crime city. Everyone is alert here.
Travis is somehow creepy and boring af (going on and on and on about himself, being in every sport, and washing cars. Yawn. It's just NOT interesting to talk to someone who brags all the time) at the same time. I was wondering what Dawn saw in him. Him ordering for her wasn't cool either- he didn't know her. I do wonder if she'd have eaten a hamburger if he ordered it. I'm thinking that's where she would draw the line. Hoping, at least.
My theory on Travis is sort of a boring one. I think he was interested in her at first (in a very creepy way), but after their date, he realized she wasn't going to change to his liking. Or something, idk. So he just dropped her. Cold, but sort of makes sense.
For some reason, my favorite part was at the meeting after Dawn told the other BSC members that she saw him with Sara. I love how they, especially Stacey and Claudia, have her back. I mean obviously they should since they're her friends, but it's still nice to read (and I agree that Kristy was being way too practical).
There's a major mistake in this book! At the end of chapter 12, when James is led away by Zach, Mary Anne notices the similarities in his and Dawn's situation (it's a bit forced imo). Then the text says, "Then Mary Anne thought about Dawn and Travis and got an idea. Dawn would be sure to read the notebook. Maybe this was Mary Anne’s chance to tell her some things she’d been thinking about." Hard to believe this wasn't caught, but then again, there's also the now we're sisters mistake.
