Jessi lost her personality when the ghostwriters came on board.

Actually, Jessi did tell a joke in NYNY. What's red and white on the outside and grey on the inside?
I don't know that they were exactly bitchy, just because I don't think they were trying to be mean. They were being very unreasonable and over the top, but they did want Mallory in the club. They just took it all too seriously and were their dumb selves.
I've never really heard of creeping either, but then I've never been around babies much. You know I kept wondering why they used "jumper" since that makes me think of British for sweaters (thanks HP), but I finally realized they were using it as the American term, which apparently means "pinafore dress." That makes more sense as to why Mallory was wearing a short-sleeved blouse and tights with it. And why she couldn't sit down easily.

That pretty much sums it up.
Maybe Mal wore the dress with her name on because she thought the others would forget it? Heh. I think I wore white tights with little hearts on them when I was in kindergarten. I can't imagine wanting to wear them at eleven...
And yes, it's a shame they didn't give Jessi more personality later on. And that Abby was brought in as their new comedienne, when hey, we used to have Jessi way back when!

I'm kinda late replying to this, but in a different book (Mallory on strike?) Mal says all the Pikes have auburn hair...and on the front cover she has bright red hair, Nicky has blond hair, and Margo has dark brown hair. The cover artist was such a rebel, never even trying to match the book descriptions.

Up until this very moment, I thought Mallory was wearing an oversized red sweater (in Australia we say "jumper" as well) and that they just said "tights" to mean leggings (which seemed weird in itself). Oh geez, now that outfit seems more laughable than it did originally. Seriously, that sounds like something a four yr old would wear. I didn't even think they made clothes like that for eleven yr olds.

I'm still wondering why it never occurred to them that THEY didn't know anything about the digestive system and not thinking that they themselves were bad systems. Why wasn't someone ready to kick Claudia out after she said divestive and mixed up soy formula and soy sauce?

;D oh that soy sauce line was hilarious! Why was Mallory expected to practically be a pediatrician and Claudia was allowed to be a raging dumbass?

Exactly!! That's what pissed me off so much about the BSC in this book. Hypocrites.

The cover artist was such a rebel, never even trying to match the book descriptions. It was specifically mentioned in AMM's biography that they made certain that crazy bastard Hodges Soileau knew the details of the scene to be depicted on a cover. I remember reading it and thinking, "So he has to make sure he gets the color of Claudia's slouch socks correct, but no one says anything about Dawn's non-white, non-ass length hair?"

Just reread and liked how Mal and Jessi tried to start thier own club. The BSC were awful to Mal. Who is Claudia to quiz her on the "divestive" system And Kristy - "they're taking the Pikes as clients". I would certainly hope that the Pikes would hire their own daughter over other girls. I'm glad they finally let Mallory and Jessi into the club. Other thing I noticed was that Mallory and Jessi sounded younger in this book than in most. I actually like when they sounded older than 11 as it made some of the things (Jessi being left home for the weekend with Becca and Squirt, for example) more plausible by letting me pretend the girls were all much older than 11 and 13.

I hated the BSC in this book. The whole book they proved themselves to be hypocrites. I agree, that soy sauce line is priceless.

I'm actually kind of surprised that they didn't know much about the digestive system at their age. I'm pretty sure I studied that in elementary school.

Now that I think about it, I studied it in elementary school as well. Of course I didn't remember any of it, until I re studied it in high school later.

Yeah, we studied it in elementary school as well. I remember that in my gifted class when I was nine, two of my friends and I created a board game called Quest: Digest. The game board was a digestive system, of course. (We were strange children.) We learned about the digestive system in Science or Health in regular class, as well.

I remember doing a play in 4th grade of the digestive system. (how I just remembered that, I have no idea.)
