Heaven forbid we should ever forget she's black.

^ Ha ha ;D I still liked Jessi by the end of the series but think like the other girls, she became more identified with her "trait" of being "the dancer" just like Kristy was the "bossy loud mouth", MA "the sensitive one", Claudia "the bad student and artist", Dawn the "hippie", etc. Wonder why Stacey never really became "the diabetic" (though I am glad) as lots of kids with illnesses like this become identified by their illness. I just was thinking about this book, anyway, because of the plot with letting just anyone in the club in Truth About Stacey and wondering if that made the girls a little leery or letting newcomers in. Or they were just showing their "superiority" to Mallory - the little 11 year old.

It could have been a combination of both- they didn't want to get in another situation like the one with the Baby-Sitters Agency and they wanted to prove that they were better because they were older than Mallory.

^ I don't know if this makes any sense, but I think that they couldn't make the transition over too well from seeing her as a babysittee to a babysitter.

^ That makes sense and is another reason I thought of (but forgot to mention). I understand as I have trouble reading about Mal as a charge because I always think of her as a sitter. They were horrible to her at first in this book, though. I really liked how she and Jessi tried to form their own club instead of just giving up

^I totally agree. Jessi was great in the beginning. It's a shame she didn't get to keep her uniqueness. She became just"the dancer." And in case anyone forgot she's black. Just like we should never forget that Watson Brewer is a millionaire. ;D

^LoL. I would have hated to be in Mallory's shoes in this book. The older girls really were terrible to her. Sheesh!

God what bothered me was Kristy's reaction towards Mallory and Jessi being hired to sit for the Pikes... the BSC were such b*tches to Mal, did they expect Mrs Pike to welcome them with open arms?

I always thought the same thing about Kristy's reaction to the Pikes "our best clients!". Like the Pikes should have hired the BSC instead of their own daughter.

This book was always one of my favorites growing up. I liked reading about how excited Mallory was to join the club and I liked all the tests they put her through (even if they were totally unfair). And the best part is Kristy being all appalled that the Pikes would hire their daughter rather than the girls being total cows to her! Think I might re-read this one soon

One thing I liked about this book was that Mallory actually got to be snarky, like her wondering wtf "creeping" vs "crawling" had to do with anything, and correcting Claudia on the pronounciation of "digestive." She actually had a personality once, just like Jessi. Unbelievable.

^ Mal could be snarky in quite a few of the books, even the later ones, I thought. I actually could see her and Jessi's personality in most of the books but noticed that she seemed to have a bit more confidence early on - pre-"Spaz girl" I guess. I liked this book, especially Mal, too.

Just finished reading it for the first time in years... I dont know what's with me lately, i'm reading these books, and laughing at the snarky moments...like when Mallory asked Kristy if she needed a sitter when Kristy called them during the Kids incorporated meeting.
Claudia "blonde" (or dumb) moment... when she was telling STacey that they were having a meeting near the end of the book on friday at 5:30 DUH CLAUD!!!!!!! She KNEW that!!!

^^I don't remember Claudia's "dumb" moment at the end of that book, but it always drove me crazy when someone like a parent would say something like, "It's Wednesday at 5:30. Don't you have a meeting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:30?"
