yeah that's what annoyed me, like she was trying to sound like a self righteous teacher
I sound like I'm hating on her but she's annoying at times

I don't see mary anne as a good teacher, period! Being a teacher never seemed to me like a good fit for her. She'd have to get over her fear of being in front of people and talking. Yes, it's easier to get up in front of kids than it is your peers, but still, she'd have to deal with their parents as well as her colleagues, and being super-sensitive and shy, she'd have a lot of work to do in order to feel comfortable with all that.

^Agreed. I wonder how Ann did it, then!

Booties can be knitted flat and then seamed that still sounds more complicated than knitting straight lines. i guess there's a reason i don't knit :]

I'm sure there is a reason Ann didn't continue teaching too and pursued writing

^Interestingly, just this weekend I picked up a copy of Jessi's Gold Medal with the new cover at a used book sale, and in AMM's note in the back, she wrote about how lots of people expected her to be a good speaker since she was a writer, and for a while she made herself speak publicly, believing she would improve at it, but eventually she accepted that she wasn't a good speaker and no amount of practice would change that. Maybe she was the same way when it came to teaching? Like, maybe she went into it thinking it would be a good fit (since she likes children and children's books), but then she eventually realized it wasn't a right fit at all. Maybe the same would happen to Mary Anne if she tried it.

yeah that makes perfect sense
out of reading, writing, listening and speaking, everyone has ones they are better at than the other though some are good at all....and just cause you can do one doesn't mean you can do all...
I don't like being a public speaker either, thought I wanted to be a teacher many times but would learn each time I wouldn't be able to do it as well. I really suck at acting, but if I have to do a script for a presentation and it requires being someone I'm not, I prefer that if it means getting a good mark to be someone else.

I liked the story more this re-read around. I loved when Stacey took Natalie to meet "Peter" (Rabbit). Pages 61-63. Lol, when Natalie was trying to guess who they were going to see and asked if Stacey's dad had funny ears and a pink nose. Was "Peter" ever visited again? I also enjoyed seeing this smaller, atypical Stacey moment (away from being boy or fashion crazy). It reminded me reading about Logan in a totally different "light" as he colored away on the road to Stoneybrook from Kentucky. By this point in the series, the girls (and Logan) have become fairly "set" in their few constant characteristics, making these more of a surprise. As for Peaches and Russ, I still felt awful for them. I also thought it was weird how after Rioko (rightfully so) got so angry about the midnight excursion, she never said anything (surely she must have noticed) for the next few days or however long Claudia "avoided" Peaches. That was a bit odd. As so many of you have said, I also wish we had gotten to read about Lynn aging even a tiny bit and having Claudia or another sitter look after her along with Claudia spending time with Peaches. When I was growing up, I had a great Aunt (my Grandma's sister) who was younger than my Grandma by 9 years. I thought she was good to talk with and could be fun. Sadly, she later made some choices that forever altered our relationship. I could relate a little to Claudia's "younger Aunt," because of my own.

I remember Afton talking about this book, she enjoyed reading about Peaches as she had an aunt, my sister, that she did a lot with when she was little.

^ Afton seemed to have so many special ties to the books and their characters. I still like hearing about them.

I have been going back and re-reading through all the book threads (prior to re-reading each book). It's fun and sometimes funny to see how a lot of your "older/first-posters to this board" (and even every now and then my own)opinions have grown and changed. Afton's posts are filled with a lot of humor and love for the BSC and other real people in her life. I have said a few times that "we" (all of us on here) are the "glue" that keeps the magic and appeal of our favorite town of Stoneybrook alive. I also truly believe that Afton is a huge part of the "glue" that has bonded all of us together as friends and fellow BSC fans. That is what "counts," and means so much to me. Afton, when you read this, much peace, love, and thanks to you. To all of you on here, my thanks, always for your friendship. This board truly is a special place.

I too love looking back at others postings and getting to know them through that. I wish I had found the board earlier to know Aston a but better as we share this and a love for wdw!
There was one thing about this book I still don't understand. Why did they set up the den for peaches and Russ when Mimi's bedroom was right there???

Maybe they wanted to keep the room as it was when Mimi was alive in her memory.
