Claudia and the Lighthouse Ghost, made it sound like the Kishi's had a den, Mimi's room (which I had thought was converted into a Guest Room), and a (Different) Guest room. IIRC, the Hatt girls stayed in Janine's room, while Steve got Mimi's old room and their parents got the guest room. As for Mimi's old room, I could completely respect their choice to have left it Mimi's room. I did think it was so sweet that Claudia left Mimi's Haiku poem on the wall along with her collage and the collage/mural the kids in her art class made. I always wished we had heard both that again in later books. The room if it had moved on, could have been a secondary family room of sorts. In any case, Stoneybrook rooms always did throw me because a lot of the girls' homes had finished or partially finished basements. I've only lived in one house that was one story. To me a "finished" basement means like a regular "floor" with heating/ac and a bathroom, along with sometimes more than one room. If that was the case at the Kishis' (we know MA told us unlike her old house, Claudia's basement was finished), there could have also been made a guest room down there. In other words, lots of "room" for thought!

I just finished a reread of this one and enjoyed the subplot more then the main plot. After reading LS I just felt so bad for Natalie I would have been her friend. Plus Shannon had a chapter in this book too! I wished she had more in the series then just a chapter or two in a couple of random books. I also wanted to know who Lief and Lindsay were the book said they were in Natalie's class but absolutely no mention in an LS book.

I think it's really nice they kept Mimi's room as it was, but then again, it was still Claudia's 8th grade year all these years our time, but in Stoneybrook time, they may have felt it's too soon to use the room for anything else, or to slightly alter it.
I felt really bad for Natalie too since she has a lot of strengths that Karen may not have as good as her (eg. arts and crafts), but the book did a good job of showing that though she's a really sweet and good kid, she didn't really know much about boundaries though that could have been from how she was raised or something.
Also looking back, Peaches must have been in the first trimester. Realistically, wouldn't a lot of people wait till the 3 months pass before telling too many people or wait until it passes before buying all those furniture items? I know it's common to get cravings and urges to keep busy during pregnancy, but maybe Russ should have talked to her LOL Peaches is really cool but a little emotionally immature too, she really could have left a note or woken someone up to say they're going for pizza.

To be honest, the Natalie Springer subplot was the highlight of this story. And a thumbs up that Shannon got a chapter, even if her way of helping Natalie make friends didn't work out. It's nice that Natalie made friends with Becca and Charlotte in the end. Oh, and I found it quite funny how she became attached to Claudia early on.

People tell about pregnancies earlier than they used to, especially to close family. I think the thirteen-week taboo is almost extinct.

Do you think that Claudia parents had a miscarriage before because how her parent reacted? Also, they said they understood when Russ said they will wait awhile. I had miscarriage last year when my boyfriend died.

I just reread this one and I must say Claudia is so bratty in this one! And we all know how very lazy Claudia is about her schoolwork, she could have easily found time to do her homework during study hall. I'm sure the eighth grade has free study periods. For me it was just pure laziness and lame excuses on Claudia's part and blaming Peaches because she got into trouble. Peaches didn't twist Claud's arm to go and get pizza or do anything else with her. And Claudia should have known better than to leave in the middle of the night to go for pizza and not leave a note. Where was her head? And don't they know how to order in a pizza? Unnecessary drama if you ask me than she goes and yells at a pregnant woman! Can you say plot device? To make poor Peaches to lose her baby?
I liked the sub plot a whole lot better than the lame main plot. I remember Natalie from the Little Sister books quite vividly and glad she made friends in the end.

I just reread this one, and I liked it a lot. I've always liked Peaches and Russ, and it was nice to see more of them. I have to agree that Peaches was a bit irresponsible, but I don't blame Claudia for not knowing how to say no to her aunt's requests. I also don't exactly blame her for flying off the handle, either, even though I think it was mean of her. It can be really frustrating to have your whole house and routine turned upside down because of guests, and sometimes things are said that shouldn't be. I disagree, Claudia was very mean at her aunt, blaming her for her own mistake. Claudia should have been more firm with her aunt.

Where was her head? Well, Claudia's the child, Peaches is the adult. Peaches should have left the note.

In regards to the baby obsession, I know that was some time ago, but I think a lot of you are still here. There is two books that actually talk about adults not wanting another baby. In Mary Anne and Too Many Babies, MA and Dawn want Richard and Sharon to have one but they say no and explain why.
And I don't know how how many people read it but there's a Little Sister book on the subject. Karen wants her mom and step dad to have a baby, but they explain theyewvfine with just Andrew and Karen. I thought it was interesting for the books to show this since every single family that combined seemed to add. Except the DeWitts...but I don't think it was addressed either way. They were side characters anyway lol.

And don't they know how to order in a pizza? They couldn't order in. Peaches said they didn't deliver at that time of night. They still should have left a note, and Rioko shouldn't have instantly blamed Claudia before Peaches spoke up and said it was her idea to go out for pizza, but they still weren't able to order in.

Agreed. This is the one time I'd agree that Rioko is too hard on Claudia.

I am living alone temporarily because my husband took an eight-month assignment out of town. Honestly, it has been amazing having the freedom to come and go as I please. We rarely used to get fast food in the middle of the night, but now I can go any time I get a craving. That's underrated.

This is oddly one of my favorite books. I also love the cover. Some things annoyed me though. Like how Claudia never told Peaches that she needed to focus on school work. Claudia blaming herself for Peaches miscarriage. How the BSC treated Natalie like she was a hopeless person that couldn’t make friends.

Yes, I agree with you about Natalie! Every time she makes an appearance, there's some mention about her droopy socks. God forbid they give her any type of characterization. They just called her the human equivalent of droopy socks and ran with it.
