I remember when the Bashers distracted Bart in order to throw insults at some Krushers' players. That kind of made Bart look bad. I wonder why Ann put that in there? (Wait, was that in this book?)

Yeah, that was in this book. I guess it was to show that Bart was quite serious about the whole rivalry thing, and that he truly saw the Krushers as competition, and that's why he was so distracted.

Oh oops. What I meant was that why did Ann make it look like, as Kristy put it, "he couldn't control his team"?

Oh, right! Hmm. Dunno! Maybe to show that the Bashers really are bigger than the Krushers? I mean, Kristy had a fair amount of control over her Krushers, so maybe it's to show that the Bashers are "badder" than the Krushers?

Who did the Bashers play against before Kristy and her Krushers came along? Did they ever mention, cos not really much point of making a team that doesn't have anyone to play with, Bart.

^ Not sure who the Bashers played but also wondered this. Maybe they were just waiting for a littler team to beat? Anyway, I just reread and liked it okay. I’m usually not a big sports fan but do like books about the Krushers and enjoy reading about the kids trying to form a team in this one. Forming a kid’s baseball team was something I wanted to do (after reading Kristy and the Missing Child) but of course, never could. I love how Kristy and Watson start developing a relationship and how he is so encouraging. As a kid, I would have been so mad (I didn’t read this one for the first time until a few years ago) about the Kristy/Bart stuff because I wanted Kristy to not have any interest in boys (because I thought I could relate to this but looking back, even I did have some crushes – just didn’t want to admit it but as an adult, I don’t mind it as much. I still can’t stand Bart, though, and am not sure why. I think he’s a jerk for letting his Bashers pick on the Krushers and could have slugged those kids. Who do they think they are, anyway? I always love it when the Krushers end up beating the Bashers. Of course, I always feel for Jackie. He knows he’s a disaster and just can’t help it. I do enjoy reading about some of his accidents (though they can get to be a bit much). This book - and all of the other baseball ones - really puts me in a spring mood and makes me want to go out and play softball (but I think I'll settle for reading some more books about the Krushers

I haven't read this book in years but one thing tha sticks in my mind is Kristy saying that Watson sounded "jerky"... what the hell does she mean by 'jerky?' I mean some one can be a jerk but 'jerky?'... sounds kinda creepy

Like somebody said earlier, you definitely see Kristy's girlier side when it comes to Bart--not just in this book but in the later books as well. For instance, in "Snowbound" and "Kristy & the Haunted Mansion", she's worried about him seeing her so early in the morning. Awww....
On a different note, was this the book when we were introduced to Claire's softball tantrums? "Nofe air, nofe air...." :-)

^I like Kristy and Bart together too. They seemed cute.
I always wondered about that too! I thought Kristy meant Watson was being a jerk, but then I looked it up it the dictionary and it said... silly; foolish; stupid; ridiculous so I guess Watson was acting stupid??

^ I always assumed that she meant "being a jerk" too. In fact, I think this was probably what she meant no matter what the defintion is. That's interesting, though. I actually think I have used the word to mean "a jerk" (and didn't get it from Kristy - maybe she got it from me ;D) I think this was the one where we first read about Claire's tantrums but it's been a while since I've read it. I always enjoy reading about the kids playing baseball (I know I'm in the minority there ) and got a good laugh out of her fits. Agree about Kristy's girly side though I have to say this is a side of her I didn't like seeing, especially as a kid. I hated the fact that she liked Bart because I wanted so badly for one of the characters to not care anything about boys because that is something I could relate to at that age (and I hate Bart - his name, ugggh!) I had forgotten how much I liked Kristy and Watson, though, in this book. I'll have to reread

Did finally reread and the Bashers really made me mad when they were making fun of the Krushers in this one. I know they were supposedly “distracting” Bart but I think he knew what was going on. Why did he bring them to the practice, anyway? Even if it was just to “scout”, don’t know if that is such a great thing to involve kids in…. As someone who was made fun of while playing sports (I couldn’t help it that I was littler than all of the other kids ;D), I felt for the Krushers. I admired their spirit, though, and was glad that they were happy with just doing their best, even though they didn’t win. I think having them win would have been a kind of unrealistic ending for this book but I liked the way it ended. I’m not a huge sports fan but I do enjoy reading about the Krushers and love this one also because of the stuff about Kristy and Watson.

I can't remember exactly what the "jerky" comment was in response to, but I remember thinking it was more like what I might call "dorky"--like being given to using really dumb sayings and making bad puns and pointing out the really obvious. (Oh my God, my dad, SO MUCH). To me, "jerky" conveys a kind of nastiness or obnoxiousness, whereas "dorky" is just kind of klutziness or corniness. I think I have this weird resistance reaction to stories about the Krushers, because I always felt that if I were a BSC client, Kristy would try to convince me how fun it would be to play softball, and how everyone would encourage me and lalala, and my reaction would be, "No, seriously, I really do just want to read." I mean, being a klutz certainly didn't make me like sports more, but part of it was just plain old disinterest. Even the few exercise-type I've managed to find as an adult that I like okay are all solitary, yoga, break-your-own-record things. (And no, I'm not bitter at all that I grew up in the only state in the country that requires four years of daily PE in high school, and that my junior year schedule was so impossible I had to go to "early bird" gym class at SIX IN THE MORNING. Not at all). And I wouldn't have wanted to be a cheerleader either. Just not my thing. In all fairness, the only time I can remember something like that happening was with those random kids she rounds up in--SS#10? When most of the Krushers are gone and she needs to fill up the roster? And she is a little evangelical about PE in Kristy in Charge. But it's like as a reader those books still make me nervous, like Kristy's going to sneak up and make me play softball! NOOOO!

Ugh! I can't get over Karen and her "Kristy's Crushers" shirt. This is one of the annoying things about Karen. She has to always be politically correct. ;D And didn't Lisa know that the the team was called "Kristy's Krushers"? She was the one that ironed on the letters for Karen.

^ Was it ever mentioned again that Karen's shirt was different? I don't remember mentions in the later books. It is really annoying me right now in Mind Your Own Business where Kristy keeps calling it the "Klinic". I guess I'm a bit of a "Karen" in thinking that C words should not be spelled with a K. I try to overlook Krushers with a K because it's supposedly a cute name for a kids team but admit it's hard for me, too. So, I suppose I can't fault Karen too much for this (even though the team's name is the team's name - agree that she should have just gone along with it.)
