Has anyone ever found out the real, confirmed way to pronounce Myriah Perkins's first name? It's driving me crazy. I've always pronounced it like Mariah, but it sounds weird with the Y.

^I have always pronounced it like Mariah too, I never really thought it was pronounced any other way than that.

I believe Raina asked Ann and posted the answer on the bsc lj community, so check there.

The girl's name Myriah \m(y)-riah\ is a variant of Myra (Greek), and the meaning of Myriah is "myrrh".
I'm guessing it's pronounced like Mariah but with a mir sound in the beginning. It's meaning is myrrh which is an aromatic resin. Hope that helped.

I was thinking it was "Mariah". Just because based on their other daughters' normal names, they didn't seem like the type of parents who would give their kid a whacked-out spelling for simple names like "Maria" or "Myra".

I was always of the "Maria" opinion. Now I want to look for Claudia/Perkins chapters to see exactly how she misspelled Myriah's name each time, and if there's any sort of pattern involved that might lead me to think otherwise. ;D There IS a Maria Kilbourne, after all.

^Now that you mention it, I think Claudia did write "Maria" in a notebook entry. I'm beginning to think "Myriah" is a very stupid name. Way too complicated.

i always hated that name too... its like... "my ria" but if you say that out loud, it doesnt flow nicely. i think ann just bought way too many vowels when naming this kid. or, well... i guess that friend of hers irl did. meh. stupid name.

I can't find the other thread where we talked about more name pronunciations, so I don't know if this was asked already. I've started reading books that have Mark Jaffe in them. How do you pronounce his last name?

Thanks. I guess I haven't gotten to the 'daffy jaffe' book yet. I was pronouncing it Jay-ff, so now I've got to get that out of my head.

The whole "Myriah" thing bugs me too. I always just thought of pronouncing her name as "Mirr-ahyah".
