In the first chapter Mary Anne gets all defensive when she and Dawn leave for a meeting and Dawn is surprised that she is packing for California a week early. Expect some teasing, Mary Anne, because that IS a little weird. I don't think it's odd to at least start getting some things together ahead of time that you know you want to bring. I am a very bad packer and wouldn't be able to pack for a trip that long without thinking about it a bit first.

I pack like a dude -- just throw some stuff together at the last minute. Although I think I'm pretty good with remembering stuff, like toiletries, reading, different types of clothes, etc. I've probably forgotten something because of my speedy packing but I can always live without it in the end

i pack like MA i guess. i'm always nervous i will forget things so i start packing days in advance, even if it's just a few things here and there. i make lists of things to pack at the last minute (like my phone charger and makeup) and cross them off once i pack them. if i have extras i will pack those too, just in case. it's awful but i'm too nervous i will leave something behind so i have to go through all these steps.

And how did Mallory NOT KNOW what asthma was? At least it's not as bad as Jessi not knowing what colic was even though HER MOST VIVID MEMORY involved Squirt having colic.

Whenever I go on vacation, I always pack like Mary Anne, actually I think I might be a little worse, because I make an exact list and cross it off as I go along, I am afraid I will forget something. Case in point, the one time I didn't make a list, I forgot to pack my toothbrush and bathing suit and had to buy a new one of each once we go there!

Hey wanderingfrog, I thought Mallory's storyline was at least somewhat dramatic, compared to the boring sitting plots a la Mary Anne and Kristy. And how did Mallory NOT KNOW what asthma was? I guess she never really took a babysitting course? But seriously, she has 7 brothers and sisters and you'd think these overly intelligent group of babysitters would at least know about asthma. It's not like at 11 you're dumb from the world. LMAO I actually loved Mallory's plot the best too!

I think I fall somewhere between Mary Anne and (as virgoscorpio said ) "a dude" in terms of packing. When I get ready to head out for one of my longer term housesitting/dog sitting jobs, I either pack the night before or the morning of, depending on what time I need to leave home. I'm pretty thorough about it: I count out all the socks, underwear, meals, etc I'll need, and I DO try to pack everything neatly. I could never pack as far ahead of time as Mary Anne does, though. I know I'd end up needing something from my suitcase before it was time for the trip!

I still like this one, but I wish the girls had spent more time together instead of just one day. Who goes on vacation just to go to the mall and babysit.
MA bothered me in this one how she saw Stephie like a mini her but the was so happy she did t have to sit for her anymore b/c of the asthma.
Jessi had the most boring plot to me b/c it was just a recycle - I guess Claudia's was though too! It's sad that Claudia can only meet cool boys on vaca and not Stoneybrook!

I'm not much of a fan of this one probably because it's mainly Dawn! Of course, the "fake" LA stuff can get old, too. Lol, I just had the thought of wondering what the BSC would think of me A CA girl (though not in terms of their stereotypes) who would love to visit Stoneybrook, CT? I still do wonder what both Claudia's parents AND Janine thought of Claud asking who they were. I also want to know from way up thread what Kristy's old address was. Claud's is 58 Bradford Court and MA (Hobarts) is 59. I had thought Kristy lived directly across from Claudia and MA lived one house over. This way it seems like 58 was on one side, 59 directly across. So Kristy might have been 57? I know this doesn't really matter, just something I've always wondered about. Sorry if this gets anyone's head spinning trying to figure out!

It should be either 57 or 61 depending on which direction the numbers went. Although sometimes numbers are skipped and then you wonder where those phantom buildings went to. (Or at least I do.)

^In Stoneybrook they could go anywhere, maybe even to the Phantom himself!

Dawn says that Mary Anne's sunscreen is "like, number eighty-five or something," and I think that's supposed to be a joke... but I wear SPF 110.

^ Maybe sunscreen SPF numbers didn't go up as high back then? I wear 50 usually.

^ I think you're right. I think the higher numbers were created AFTER all of the info about sun damage was put out as a way to avoid any health risks. Also, as technology gets better I'm sure they're able to create more sun-proof products.
