You guys, in Get Well Soon Mallory, when Mal is SICK IN BED WITH MONO, Mrs. Pike makes her babysit Margo and Claire while she takes the other kids shoe shopping. Mal isn't well enough to go to school and can't get out of bed (the idea of going downstairs to get the girls the sandwiches Mrs. Pike left in the fridge makes her feel weak), but she has to freaking babysit two of her siblings because Mrs. Pike can't possibly handle taking them all with her. Or, you know, waiting until Mr. Pike gets home so that he can watch the girls. In what world is that ok?! Even in BSC-world it's ridiculous!

Agree with Hitzpink but actually am reviving this thread with a different point. I have been noticing Mr. Pike's sarcastic humor a lot more lately and he seems like a kind of fun guy. I never really had an opinion on him before but I think my view is becoming more positive of both him and Mrs. Pike (if I ignore their ... interesting... parenting, fact that they are "breeders" and the way they treat Mal like a slave

^ LOL. I also liked the descriptions of him cooking breakfast in Sea City. He seemed pretty good natured.

I really like Mr. and Mrs. Pike. They seem like fun parents. I just don't like how they had so many kids that close together. I think they should have had Mallory and the triplets and maybe either Margo or Claire.

^ Agree. I was just telling my mom last night that they had 7 kids under the age of 5 at one time. That must have been crazy. It would have made a good movie ;D (I'm watching Cheaper by the Dozen now and always think of the Pikes). Even with all the kids, the Pikes still find time to help others. They seem like good people (though I sometimes question their discipline but have no idea what it would take to handle that brood....;D)

I think they are nice people, just crazy for having so many kids in such a short period of time. My parents had 5 kids in 8 years and everybody thought they were crazy.

^ I guess it gets all of the harder years over with quicker ;D That's what a friend said who had 3 under the age of 5.

That makes sense I guess. At one point the Pikes would have had 5 kids in diapers- oh the horror.

I was really glad to see Mr. Pike come out of his depression right away after Mrs. Pike put her foot down (I was also glad to see this) in Poor Mallory. I was mad at him for the way he neglected Claire but I think his reaction was totally understandable. Lots of people can probably relate to how he was feeling after losing his job. After he gets himself together in that book, I thought he was great. I loved the part where he was making the project with Claire and can totally see him as Mr. Mom (making "daddy stew" ;D) but was glad he got another job. I like the Pikes more each time I read about them.

Poor Mallory is one of the only times I DON'T like Mr Pike. I'm sorry but he is a grown man and he knew the situation would in the end be okay, he shouldn't have acted the way he did. He acted like a child and neglected his children in the process. In general though, I think he seems really laid back and fun

It bugs me how the Pikes expect Mallory to do everything around the house. I agree that she should have to watch her siblings sometimes, but it shouldn't be her whole life.

^ That does bug me, too, but I try to ignore it by reminding myself that this is part of a lot of plots. It also makes Mal seem older and more responsible, which I like. Again, my "fantasy" of swooping in as a kid and having it all together like an adult and taking care of someone's life (loved Dawn and the Impossible Three and books like that)

I'm reading Mary Anne and Too Many Boys, and Mr. and Mrs. Pike want Mary Anne and Stacey to take their evenings off separately so that they are able to go out every night and be sure that Mal and either MA or Stacey will always sit. I guess they didn't consider if MA and Stacey wanted to take a night off together, like in Boy-Crazy Stacey. It seemed a little weird...

I think it's kind of irresponsible for Mr. and Mrs. Pike to go out every single night. I can understand them wanting to get away from their kids some, but they shouldn't dump all the responsibility on MA and Stacey.
