I really like Aunt Peaches – Russ too. And her name always makes me hungry ;D I enjoyed Peaches and Claudia’s talk in Claudia Makes up her Mind. It is nice to see Claud with an older role model or at least someone else to turn to since she doesn’t seem close to her own mom. As for Claudia’s belief that her aunt is so much like her, I am not as convinced. I think that Peaches is much more fun and laid back than Claud’s mom (though I don’t see that as taking much) and maybe not very “intellectual” but I think she’s a lot more responsible and has a lot more common sense than Claudia. The exception being in Crazy Peaches, when I thought she acted kind of out of character. I almost wonder if her behavior in that book (I was actually really surprised when she acted like Claud’s homework wasn’t important since usually she gives me a different impression) was her way of dealing with all of the major changes nad fears she was facing in her life right then – kind of like one last “fling” before settling down into motherhood. Anyway, I was glad she and Claud made up and felt really sorry for her after she lost the baby. I wish Aunt Peaches and Uncle Russ would have been in more books. Were they in Claudia and the Sad Goodbye? I can’t remember but assume they were.

Claudia and Crazy Peaches is one of my favorite books of all time. Maybe because I have an Aunt very much like Peaches. She wasn't married though (although when I was in Elementary school she did have a Girlfriend that I thought was really awesome) so I always preferred to think of Peaches that way. I loved that she took Claudia to see "Bringing Up Baby" which is one of my favorite movies all time, which I also exposed to by my "Aunt Peaches" (not in the theatre though, on video and I remember being very excited because It was mentioned in a BSC book and now because it has Katharine Hepburn [my name sounds exactly like hers if you say it quickly] and Cary Grant).

I don't like Peaches. Russ seems fine, but Peaches? She seems irresponsible and flakey. I dont' know why but I could totally see her making all these fun plans with Claud and then just not showing up and disappointing her.

I was just wondering if the BSC ever sat for Lynn and if they didn't, why not? Didn't Russ and Peaches move to Stoneybrook before she was born? I think it would have been a good storyline to have them call a meeting for a sitter because with the "fair jobs" policy, someone other than Claudia might have gotten the job. I can see her becoming extremely jealous. Interesting possibilities.... ;D

i think they just call claud directly, and if claudia can't sit someone else in the kishi family does. some people are just not comfortable with non-family baby-sitters, especially with a newborn.

didn't peaches quit work to hang out w/ the baby? I never thought about them needing a sitter and i agree they'd probably ask family. Also the BSC give Jessi and Kristy first dibs on sitting jobs w/ their siblings so i don't think they'd care if Claud was taking jobs to sit Lynn.

^ Agree about them calling family directly. I know Claud and family does sit for her in Terrible Truth. I always kind of find it strange that the other families - Pikes, Ramseys, Kristy's mom - call the club but agree that they give the family members first chance. I also doubt the others would object to Claudia taking the job but was just thinking about how she might get mad if one of them started taking jobs with Lynn for some reason (maybe Peaches and Russ both had some kind of meetings for some kind of activity or club and these events came at a time when Claudia wasn't available.) Just thinking about some interesting possible scenarios ;D

Yeah, I think it was Russ who gave Peaches her nickname. It was russ who gave her the nickname because it was in ...Claudia and the sad good-bye..

i think in families where the extended family is local, they'd definitely rather have family sit for an infant before some thirteen year old who's not related.

^ Definitely. I just wish Lynn would have been in more books, even if it was just the Kishis sitting for her. I would have liked to see more interaction between her and Janine, too. I really liked how Peaches and Russ showed up in Claudia's Big Party and how Claudia sometimes went to Peaches for advice. Makes me miss my close relationship with my aunt.
