In Everything Changes, Stacey is all freaked out because her dad and Samantha are considering living together. By the end of the book, she decides that it would be okay if this happened. Then nobody ever mentions it again. When Mr. McGill and Samantha get engaged in FF #10, Samantha is still living in her own apartment and it's as if they never considered the possibility of her moving in before getting engaged/married.

Is there ever any reference to Samantha's age? I always picture her as being much younger than Mr. McGill. Don't know why except I get the feeling that he's the type that would go for a younger woman.

Yeah I always pictured Samantha as much younger also. I think of her as the new, younger version of Mrs. McGill. It would've been interesting to see if Samantha could've handled marriage to Mr. McGill, with all the alone time she'd have.

I always pictured Samantha as Carrie Bradshaw.

maybe much prettier and taller than carrie bradshaw as it said in one of the ff books that she used to be a model for a bit and then became interested in photography.

She's described as having brown hair. I play Stacey in an rpg and in my head, I actually see Samantha as Kristen Davis from S&tC.

I also think of Samantha as being younger than Stacey's parents, but I can't recall if there was ever a specific reference made to this or if I just assumed. I think there might have been an actual reference, but I don't know where.

How interesting that you guys picture Samantha as a SatC character! I never did. I don't know if I had a clear picture of how she might look, really.

I just don't care for Samantha and am not sure why. There is probably no basis for this but for some reason, she seems kind of fake. She is nice to Stacey and all but it seems forced. Maybe I'm just picturing her as one of those "mean stepmothers" that you usually see stereotyped in movies where kids have rich dads (It Takes Two and the Parent Trap are two examples). I don't know, she just seems kind of self-absorbed - like a perfect match for Ed. Thoughts on Samantha?

I never thought too much about her. I do like Mrs. McGill a lot.

I always kind of figured she was the newer younger woman Ed went after because he's got a high powered job and must have lots of money. I just picture Samantha as a trophy girlfriend that makes Ed feel good about himself because he managed to snare her. That's mean I know, but with my dislike of him, it fits in my mind.

I completely agree with sugar. I think Samantha and Mr. McGill are both just using each other.

That's a great point sugarmonkey. I never thought of it that way, but now I can totally see it.

That is the exact same point I was trying to express sugarmonkey (despite my difficulty in coming up with it through my muddled, overwhelmed brain ) and I couldn't have said it better. Glad to agreement with me on this one. I also see that Samantha might be the type to be nice to Stacey in front of her dad but then really nasty to her and threatening ("wicked stepmom" thing again) the minute Ed turns his back. I also agree with Lyricalangel: I like Mrs. McGill too.

I liked how Samantha treated Stacey after she and Mr. McGill were engaged, but it did feel forced. She is just weird, and should never have been written into the series in my opinion.
