Any thoughts on him? He was always my least favorite Stacey boyfriend and really bugged me for some reason. He always seemed to be cracking stupid jokes and I wasn't ever convinced by Stacey's "he's so wonderful" speeches. It seemed like in some books, he was depressed and mopey but still unable to be serious. I am searching for the word to describe why I don't like him and can't find it. Maybe it will come to me or maybe someone else's ideas will help me come up with it.

I know how you feel. Something about Robert always bothered me. He always seemed like he was hiding something. In SS # 15 he annoyed me with how he kept trying to be by Stacey just so he could hide from that one girl...can't think of her name

Robert was REALLY annoying. Especially in Stacey's Ex-Boyfriend... oh my god. Such a freaking baby.

I HATED him in Stacey's ex boyfriend, yes i understand he had depression issues and all, but it seemed to come out of nowhere, like it was randomly thrown in the series.

I like Robert, except I hate that he cheated on Stacey with Andi. I'm disappointed in Andi for doing that too, of course.
I don't think Robert's depression came out of nowhere at all. It was gradually developed in quite a few books before #119. I thought it was a fairly realistic depiction of moderate depression, which is why I found it so insulting that it pretty much went away after a couple of talks with Robert's coach.
And yeah, I'd prefer not to act the way Robert did in that book, or for my friends to act that way, but I didn't find it so bad. Depression's tough to deal with, and he's only thirteen.

I think that was my problem with his depression issues, it went away too fast. I know in real life it doesn't go away that easily, usually. I wasn't trying to be insensitive to people who have depression, it was just Robert himself that annoyed me for various reasons.

Robert really annoyed me in Stacey and the Mystery at the Empty House when he kept calling Carrot by all kinds of other names. It was like he was jealous of the dog. I thought he had a really good opinion of himself (or was super-insecure) and pretended to be so "sensative" but was actually quite selfish. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who disliked him.

Oh, I didn't mind when he was calling Carrot different names. It just seemed like good-natured teasing. I liked when he called him Rutabaga!

Something that got my attention in Aloha Babysitters is when Robert jokingly punched one of the men teachers in the arm. That seemed really weird. I know he was just joking but that's pretty bold if you ask me (unless the teacher is a family friend or someone you know really well which didn't seem to be the case). I don't know that it would really be appreciated either. Maybe this is a case of the special treatment athletes get at SMS (though I'm not sure if Robert was an athlete after quitting Bball)? I'm probably analyzing way too much but was just thinking about this.

He played on the baseball team after quitting the basketball team. I didn't notice the arm-punching bit, but I agree with you that it does seem weird if it isn't a teacher you know really well.

After reading Stacey's ExBF, I like Robert even less. what a conniving jerk. Stacey is def better off without him!

I thought Robert was a jerk, and he didn't deserve to be with Stacey, even if she did act like a brat sometimes.

I never liked Robert and was sorry he even stayed friends with Stacey. I found him annoying and a little whiny yet full of himself - not to mention a cheating jerk!

I just read Empty House and Robert really bothers me in this one – in every book he is in, actually. I think he might be one of my least favorite BSC characters, not only because of the cheating but also because he seems so annoying and clingy. He’s not just like that in Stacey’s Ex-Boyfriend, either, I don’t think. Anyone else get that same impression of Robert as clingy and needy and maybe a bit insecure?
