I have read a few of the Dawn in CA books and don't really like the rest of the We Love Kids Club. Probably because I don't have a lot in common with them and the "hippie" stuff kind of bugs me (personal preference, I know.) Jill is probably my favorite of the three. I don't really like Dawn when she's with them, either. I can't bring myself to read the CA Diaries (or the Friends Forever) spin-offs so this might make me like them more but I'm not sure. Anyone else not care for the We Love Kids Club or Dawn in CA?

I liked them less after reading CA Diaries. They were awful to Jill in these books.

I've never read the CA diaries books, but I like to read about Dawns friends in California in some of the regular books, even though they're pretty stereotype, all blonde vegetarians (come on!) but I like how they're pretty alternative. I also have a thing for the name "Sunshine Daydream". Classic!

I felt bad for Jill when they all kinda turned against her, but she WAS pretty dorky. At 13 I would've probably reacted how they did. I like Sunny the best of the CA girls, she is spunky and speaks her mind and I like that a lot. I wonder why they wrote Jill out and replaced her with Amalia. Maggie bugs me with the whole "poor little rich girl" thing. I mean I know rich people get sad too and all, but it's hard to relate to!

Off-topic: sotypical, I just realized that the 42483 is your birthdate. Duh, I'm dumb not to have noticed that before. There are FOUR of us on the boards who have the same birthday! Isn't that funny? I'm 04/24/80 though, not 04/24/83.
On-topic: I like all of the girls in CA Diaries, even Dawn, who I don't like by that point in the regular series. Maggie and Jill's characters aren't very well developed in the BSC books, so it's hard to know what I think about them when they're in the W<3KC. I guess I don't think about them much. I love CA Diaries Maggie. She would annoy the hell out of me if I knew her in real life, but I love her anyway because I can relate to what goes on in her head -- I just have the good sense not to let that stuff come out of my mouth. But I'm also not 13. I think Jill is annoying and immature in CA Diaries, but not enough so that they should have stopped being friends with her altogether. That's harsh. I like Sunny most of the time, although of course CA Diaries Sunny would be an infuriating person to be friends with!

I can relate to Jill....maybe she just wasn't ready to grow up as much as her friends? That totally would have been me. In fact, I think it WAS me.

I think of all the WLKC members in the regular books, Jill is my favorite. I did read a CA Diary about Maggie and found it pretty interesting. Maybe I will have to try some of those and see if I like the WLKC members any better. I think it is just personal preference, though, because like I said, I'm not into "hippie" type free spirit stuff. (I'm pretty conservative - kind of an uptight "Richard"

I didn't really mind the girls in the WLKC, but for some reason I actually like them better in CA diaries. I think I liked them better in those books because I could relate to some of the stuff they were going through.
I hated how they just dropped Jill though. However , that is probably typical of 13 year old girls.

Jill kind of underwent a personality shift for CD, didn't she? Isn't she always described in BSC books as being the shy, quiet, most mature one of the bunch? I don't even remember that much about her (in BSC I mean) but she struck me as being kind of serious perhaps, and not all about sparkles and ponies and teddy bears like she was in CD.

It sounds like if I want to start the CA Diaries, I should read the ones about Jill (ponies and teddy bears sound kind of like me . I think she's my favorite by far in the regular series. I don't mind Maggie much either but for some reason, Sunny bugs me. I just read Dawn and the Surfer Ghost and still just can't get into the WLKC. Maybe this is because I have more of Kristy's philosophy with organization, etc. But the food they serve at the CA meetings does sound a lot better than Claudia's hoarded junk (the latest that grossed me out was red and green m&ms from "last Christmas" and Claudia's insistance that "chocolate doesn't spoil." Give me tortilla chips and veggies any day!

Thanks sotypical. Guess I won't be reading any books about Jill On second thought, maybe I won't even attempt the CA diaries. After reading Dawn and the Surfer Ghost, I was even more bored and annoyed by the WLKC.

Right, Jill's only in the first one (and mentioned briefly in others). There's a scene that makes me laugh where they are walking to school and the other girls notice she is wearing shoes that have ponies with actual little tails on them and they're horrified. And there's another scene where they all go to the mall and Jill drags them to a store called "The Bear Necessities" (clever).

I also have a thing for the name "Sunshine Daydream". Classic! Me too. I recently found a "book" I wrote in the 3rd grade with a character named "Sunshine Daylight" and mentioned that her parents where hippies (I won't even get started with my 2nd Grade BSC Fan-fiction). I love the CD books, but the WLKC always bored me. I kind of wondered what the point was, it seemed far fetched to me as a kid (a kid who had tried to start a babysitters club many times) that Dawn would have an organized babysitting service on both coasts.

aln, there's really not mention of WLKC in the CD books. Granted I've only read the first one by each person, but there's no babysitting in any of those! It's weird... I do like the CD books I've read, but they all seem REALLY disjointed from one another.
