I'm in the "Spyer" club. I was so thrown off when I saw one of the movies and it was "Spear."
I say "Pap-add-a-kiss" but I'm not at all certain that's right.
I also got stuck on "Myriah," but I think it's "Mariah" or more of a "Mirr-iah" (the first part sounding like "mirror).
There's a part in one of the shows - I think it's the where Karen steals Claudia's earrings - that Mallory says something about the Barretts. I always pronounced it "Buh-rett." She said "Bare-ets." I hate it, but I'm with Mal on that one - it's like Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

Haha I said "barrette" too until I heard the name Barrett in real life.

And oh, for some reason, I pronounce Jenny's last name as "Pretzi-O-so". You know, like "pizza" (pronounced as "peet-za"). me too! i thought i was the only one.

I always have said "Spear" and "Bear-et." Thanks to either Ann or her secretary we know Myriah is said like Mariah Carey. I still have no clue how to say Papadakis. (Pah-p-dock-is)? Then there is one or two time appearing Sheila Nofziger, how is her last name said I wonder.

As a kid, I guess it was good for me to read these books with an adult (my Grandma often read an entire book with me, one after the other. She passed away a few years ago and I miss her! Awe, her reading the BSC with her grandson). Because she could pronounce all the names, it helped (especially Papadakis!) BUT, to this day I still say "barette" for Barrett, like booboo and many others. So thanks to this board for clearing it up!

I LOVE that your grandma read BSC to you! Grandparents are so special. I'm sorry you lost her. I lost my papa (maternal gpa) almost 5 years ago and it's so hard to say good-bye to them.

Thank you! I didn't go to her funeral because I had personal issues with my family (she was my father's mom and he definitely abandoned me). I feel a bit guilty for that but I know that she's with me as my angel and I talk to her all the time. I'm even dedicating one of my books to her and writing her as a character (an angel, which is fitting because she was my Earth Angel)

What a great Grandma, Virgo. I'm glad you have those memories of her. Grandparents are most definitely special. I'm sorry about your Grandpa, U4me. I considered my paternal Grandma "mom." If ever I had a "hero" it would have been her husband, my Grandpa.

I said "Janie" for Janine, and "Brian" for Byron for a long time when I was little. I didn't know that Buddy and Suzi were Bare-ets until I saw the movie (I said "Barrette" too). I called Myriah "Myra" and of course the same issues with Papadakis, Prezzioso, and Johannson (I don't know what the heck I thought Papadakis sounded like, because now I only hear "Pop-a-DA-kiss", which I believe is correct, but Jenny was "Prez-ee-o" and Charlotte was Johnson... and now they're "pret-zee-OH-so" and "joe-HAN-sen", like Scarlett). I frequently think I'm the only weirdo kid who has always pronounced "Schay-fer" and "Speer" correctly! ETA: I had issues with Shea "shee-a" and Rodowsky (?? LOL) for a while too. The one that took me unti I was an adult was "Beau" in California Girls, though... I thought he was "byew" (like rhymes with "pew"), and when Stacey says "Bo?" I thought she was saying "boo". So like this: "My name is Bew." "Boo?" "As in B-E-A-U." I just realized how similar Charlotte Johansson and Scarlett Johansson are. It has to be pure coincidence, because Scarlett was born two years before the books came out, and she wasn't a big name then so AMM couldn't have gotten inspiration from there... but still! Weird

I was queen at mis-pronouncing names
schafer - ska-fer papadakis - pa pa da kiss (still not sure about this) Spier - spy-er prezzioso had to ask my brother about this one-he said it was prez -ee- oh -so. I still call her jenny p, its easier.
I'm sure there's more!

I said Spy-er until the book told me not to. Jenny Prezzioso always confused me so I said it "Per-izo". I know, epic fail lol Who cees if there are enough syllables out it sounds remotely like its spelled? In also thought Nancy Dawes was Nancy Drew for awhile, but it amused me so much I kind of think it was wishful thinking. I was an early reader, and I read very quickly, so I didn't like to slow down and sound things out.

I always pronounced a couple o names wrong for quite awhile. I been reading since I was 8 and only just realised my mistakes, five years later.
Here's my list of mispronounced names Kristy was Kirsty for awhile cos I had a book with a girl Kirsty and thought it was Kristy until my mum told me so when I saw Kristy I just assumed it was Kirsty cos they looked the same
Scharfer- I thought just rhymed with laugher. I'm still not sure how to pronounce it
I always did Johannsen as Johnson
I was never sure how to say papadakis
I said nancy drews instead of nancy Dawes
I thought brewer was berwer
I thought Cary was carry
Prezzioso I still can't pronounce Rodowsky was just r cos I wasn't even going to attempt it and Kuhn is another one. I don't know if its pronounced carn or what?
And spier was always spyer rhyming with crier instead of cheer
