I exchanged books plenty with friends, with or without this prompting, over the years.

I think I may have tried to start a library once, no doubt influenced by the Pikes. ;D I always loved that baby-sitting chapter, it's one of my favourites.
I don't like lending my stuff out so I don't do it often. Not because I'm selfish, but because I've had bad experiences with my stuff not getting returned. I let a friend borrow the first California Diaries and she never gave it back. I also lent out a favourite book of mine to my best friend and she kept it for five years - I didn't get it back until after I bought a second copy. (And she never even read it!)

I rarely lend my stuff out because it usually doesn't get returned, which makes me really mad. My brother used to take my t-shirts all the time when we were teenagers and they would be ruined by the time I got them back.

I borrowed the "Babysitters Guide" off a friend, intending to give it back, but now its years later and I've moved to a completely different state and I still havent given it back.. oops, I feel bad now. And I even bought myself my own copy when I saw it because I was intending to give the borrowed copy back.
I like that the Pike kids got so involved in their activities. I think this has been meantioned before, but I totally agree. And I think the Pike house wouldnt ever get boring, but I agree with what SoTypical says, atleast if you werent related to them, when you go annoyed you could just go home to your own house.

Yeah, I have things I borrowed with the complete intention of giving them back, but between not seeing people, or just plain forgetting I had them, have not. But then again, I've lent things out and not had them returned. Mostly books, but my sister borrowed a bunch of my dvds and I never got them back. I think she lost them and doesn't want me to know, because she keeps promising to return them.
I like the Pikes because they're innovative. The library is a really cute idea, but I wonder how they managed to get late fees out of kids. Did the triplets go shake some kids down for their fifteen cents? It doesn't seem likely to me that kids would be willing to part with their money, no matter how little it was, at least not to other kids. You know what I mean?

I once borrowed a Pearl Jam CD from my sister. I returned it...eight years later! When I gave it back to her she said she thought she'd lost it years ago!

^The same sort of thing happened with my VHS copy of *1776*. But I told the girl who borrowed it she was welcome to keep it, because I had since gotten the restored version on DVD!

I don't think it's as bad if you borrow/lend things to family members. You don't have to be so "nice" about getting your stuff back. Or maybe that's just how it goes in my family.

I used to have an entire rack of clothing that I had borrowed from people. Most of it was sweaters and hoodies from guys that I had no intention of seeing again, but I didn't want to get rid of someone else's stuff; also all the crap that my best friend and I would share got so mixed up that half the time we didn't remember who bought what or when. Finally, I just sold it all in a garage sale. I hope that doesn't make me a bad person.
And besides, I swear, karma is kicking (my butt) right now because my ex took all my Cameron Crowe dvds with him. All of them. I am stuck with only Jerry McGuire on VHS if I need a fix.
Edited: I had a different phrase in parenthesis, but the board changed it to "I disagree". It made no sense!

My older sister & I, used to played library, when we're kids. I think, I read Jessi-babysitters a long time ago. If, I have find it at garage sale or thrift store. I'll go buy it & reread it again.
I borrow from ex friend's book. (This was before, we broke up our friendship.) I was meaning to give ot back. But, I misplace it in my house. When, I found it. I was like, this was my ex friends book. We been ex-friends since June 2008. She hasn't called me or email back, she wants her book back. So, I guess, it's mine now.

^I thought the Pike library sounded like fun. Too bad it only lasted the one book. I've had books stolen three times that I can remember. Twice as a kid and once (the worst) as an adult when a former boss stole both a VHS movie and a very nice copy of a rare children's book from me.

^She sure did. Bizzarre and also sad story. I actually started sharing it but hit some wrong key and it got lost. Maybe I'll try again later.

That's mental. I keep lending my Supernatural DVDs to people I work with then acidentally leaving them at work - I have been really lucky noone has stolen them yet
