That was one of the parts in Kristy's great idea that really creeped me out! About Stacey and Sam staring at each other and the way they described each other... I skip that part when I reread the book.

Ugh ITA with whoever said Sam sounded like an awkward dork. I imagined him to be a slightly more socially inept Cory Matthews. Does anyone remember how in Stacey's Big Crush she can't ask him to the dance after her debacle with Wes because another girl from her class has asked him out?! I tried to fanwank Stacey/Sam with the idea that Stacey was ~sophisticated~ enough that the age difference didn't matter, but if he's going to dances with regular Stoneybrook girls, boy's a fa-reek

I remember in Kristy Secret Admirer (I think) where it says that Sam likes to finish his homework on Fridays, so he can stay on the couch throughout the whole weekend and watch t.v. If this is what he does with his weekends then he seems like a boring guy. So maybe he can't get any play from girls his own age? And it must make him feel like a stud in comparison about how when he can't take one girl from SMS out there is a reserve waiting in the wings for him.

Sam was also in the Math Club. I don't think he was nearly as cool as Kristy and Stacey thought.

I have a complete inability to picture Sam with dark curly hair. I know he's been described that way a billion times, but I keep seeing him as blond. I also can't picture David Michael as having dark curls like he's supposed to -- in my mind, he has straight, medium-brown hair. My brain just completely rejects the book descriptions of them, and I don't know why.

^ for some reason I imagine Sam to look like that singer Ben Lee, but with more acne. Don't know why, considering he's been described as a gorgeous hunk, but nevertheless, I can't help seeing him that way.

I'm thinking Sam probably felt a bit inadequate compared to Charlie. I think he had an inferiority complex. Sam WAS a dork - the Math Club, being such a nervous geek around a 13 year old girl, etc. Charlie was much more suave and ooh! had a car!

But to counter Charlie's car, Sam had a job. I dunno. I always pictured Sam to have dark blond hair for some reason with lightly sprinkled freckles. And dimples when he smiled. For some reason I always imagined David Michael to look like Jamie Newton on the cover of MA & Bad Luck Mystery.

But she was NYC-chic and sophisticated, remember? No wonder Sammy was a quivering mess!

^ And also remember, Stacey was supposed to look older than 13, around 15 or so. Oooh. (I dunno)

I wish their relationship had a neat time frame, and that it wasn't just randomly mentioned every ten books or so.

^ Yeah, I would have preferred Stacey to have been paired with a relatively major character like Sam for a consistent time frame instead of with all of these random guys thrown in solely for one purpose. It would have made her seem less of a sl*t in my eyes.

This was my favorite Stacey relationship. It was kind of strange to think of a high school student being attracted to a 12 year old when they first met, but the age difference wasn't something I really noticed or thought about later on.

I can definitely see Stacey and Sam being on-again, off-again all throughout high school. But I agree with all of you, Sam is a DORK! He was so awkward and creepy in Shadow Lake. I hated reading about him teasing Stacey like he was back in the 3rd grade again. Bleh. I don't know what Stacey saw in him.
