If the BSC books were written today instead of in the eighties, what do you think would be different?
Some of the things that I thought of:
*Mallory and Jessi would be begging to get their belly buttons ( or something else!) pierced instead of their ears.
*Stacey would be straightening her hair instead of getting it permed.
*The notebook would probably be an online blog
What else can you think of?

Haha, so true!
This is kinda like the revamped SVH. Is that were you got the idea?

Edit: the forum eats my first post, then double posts. Oh well. So I erased this post (if that makes sense).

Grrr. This forum ate my first post in this thread. Anyway, if the BSC was written today would the BSC girls be written as so innocent, in regards to sex, drinking, swearing, etc? Looking at the girls series written today (Gossip Girl, The Clique) there is some very adult subject matter being included in books aimed for tweens/teens. Rereading the BSC as an adult, I find the girls to be very...young. No swearing. What's interesting is (apparently) in the new revamped SVH, there is swearing! As for drinking, it turns up once in the old series, which isn't that realistic. And sex, I think in today's world the BSC girls would go further (not all the way, but definitely further), and I really think they would think/talk about sex now. Would the BSC girls be written as older (maybe 14/15) if they revamped the series and rewrote it today? I'd like to see a gay character, or a kid with two mums. As was mentioned above, Kristy would probably take the BSC online, make it so clients could contact and book baby-sitting jobs online. Cell phones would be everywhere (no brainer), and forget about bragging about having cable tv, everyone would be TIVOing shows they liked. Instead of Jessi dealing with a ballerina with anorexia, the girl might be cutting herself instead.

Claudia would be the same, but the outfits would work. I know a lot of art students / fashion students who wear clothes that I wouldn't look twice at and put them together in a way which in my opinion shouldn't work, but somehow does.
MA and Kristy would secretly text each other at night, instead of using the flashing lights.
I've been thinking about doing a fan fic on modernising it, not sure though.

They'd all have cell phones and iPods. They'd have access to the Web... instead of the BSC notebook, they'd have a Blogger account where they could all post about their latest sitting job. Beats having to write it out by hand! Ear-piercing would not be the ultimate rite of passage, it would be body-piercing instead.

body-piercing for thirteen year olds? my sister is eight and ear-piercing is still a huge deal in her class at school.

I guess the kinds of kids that I see come through the library make me say that.

Haha, so true! This is kinda like the revamped SVH. Is that were you got the idea? This is exactly what I was thinking of Kylie! Seeing SVH revamped makes me wonder what they could do to revamp the BSC (although I hope they never do because I would be so mad if even one word was changed ;D). You all came up with some good ideas. When I think of some, I'll post them here!

Richard would be strict because he wouldn't let MA get a cell phone, lol.

Or he'd be strict because MA wouldn't have a computer in her room. (IMO and in our family when DD is older, the computer should be in a public part of the house for everyone's protection, but I know a lot of people have let their children and teenagers have them in their rooms.) On that same vein, Janine would have to be into soomething else because computer programming is no longer limited to uber-geeks!

Maybe Janine would be writing and developing her own RPG. I think it's cool, but I can see the BSC girls thinking it geeky.
I can also see Claudia streaking her hair with colour pretty often because it would be 'so stunning against her jet black hair, which that day was pulled off her face.'
Jessi would be into ice skating, rather than ballet. Not sure why I think that, I just do.
Mallory, rather than wanting sparkly things will be desperate to wear short, belted tunics over leggings with brightly coloured pumps or something.
Kristy would wear a Beanie rather than a baseball cap.
I'm so going to do a modern take on this! Starting tonight!

Dawn's tastes in food would not seem anywhere near as strange.
