^ ;D No, I just liked it because the whole scene reminds me of my mom when she drives (she gets EXTREMELY nervous) and she definitely says some words..... ;D

Yep...we have found hints of swearing in three of the SS so far. Can anyone else think of any more?

I think we can also assume Claudia swears in Island Adventure when they're in the middle of their race...it's windy and Dawn can't hear her, but she can tell that she is "saying words she's not supposed to." This always shocked me as a little kid! I think this was the very first SS I read, and I was like "b -babysitters swearing?!" lol. I always wondered what she really said. Of course, at that age, swearing was a huge taboo to me, and I was sad. Then again, it might have been just 'Crap!' or something, lol.

^ They don't say exactly what she says but Stacey just says she can't repeat it. I was kind of surprised but liked it because found it realistic. ;D Haha, I remember that part! ;D I was surprised at first too Aln but then I just found it to be funny and totally realistic.

Not a SS, but in "Mary Anne's Makeover" it mentions that Alan Gray and his friends were in the library looking up "dirty words" in the dictionary. I told my mom about this for some reason and she said "it didn't say what they were did it?" And I said "No." And she said "Good, because if it did we'd have a book burning party". I think she was having a bad day.

Haha, I found the part in Snowbound where it hints at cussing. It is when Dawn and her mother are on their way to the airport and they slid into the cow mailbox, "Nevertheless, I heard Mom say a word I have never heard her use before. In fact, I've heard it only in movies that Mom doesn't know I've seen." It also hints that Dawn is in fact, not perfect, and did things her mother is unaware of. Then it says that her mom says the word again later in the chapter. ;D

I LOVE it when there's swearing the BSC books. I am always amused when the narrator mentions how someone is saying "words they're not supposed to say" or "words I wouldn't repeat". It cracks me up.

I'm not sure if that was mentioned in this thread or not, but I think it was in SS1 when Kristy, Claudia and Dawn are staying in the same room in the hotel. Kristy, I think, goes to check and see if they get the movie channel, to see if any movies are playing that they're not supposed to see, and Dawn mentions that her and Jeff saw one before but it was nothing special, lol. Sorry if this was mentioned before.

^Actually (I only know this because I just read SS1) it was only Jeff that has seen an R rated movie. All of the girls thought that when they were able to see them, it wouldn't be anything special! I agree that it was shocking that Jeff saw a rated R movie though and especially before his sister!

I love that, too. It reminds me of the day I was having a particularly hard time with my data and swore a bit (ok, a lot) before storming out to grab lunch. Someone came in looking for me while I was out, and one of the guys I shared an office with said, "Baseballchica03 said some bad words at her computer then left." Heee.

Weren't movie ratings sort of different back then? I was really little in the 80s and therefore didn't watch many movies, but I mean, if Sixteen Candles got a PG rating, and there was swearing and nudity in it, I wonder what movie Jeff saw. ;D And at age ten or younger, no less.

Were ratings more lenient back then? Funny, cause if they aired on TV then, I think they got edited much more than they do now.

sixteen candles was originally rated R but then changed to PG. It was released 2 months before they created the pg-13 rating, so i assume that it would have been rated that. An R rating would have meant commercial death for a teenager movie.
