Ann really does seem obsessed with which girls have big boobs and which ones don't...

I guess Ann likes collies, because the main character in Slam Book also has a collie (named Bucky).

Yeah, and I'm not sure, but that book that she wrote about a dog? I can't remember what it's called, and I've never read it, but my sister has it, and I'm trying to think of the cover. Anyway, isn't the dog in that also a collie? I'm not sure...

I'm surprised the books aren't littered with "Lassie" references.

Now that would be even more square than I Love Lucy!

I'm surprised the books aren't littered with "Lassie" references. I think it's because she killed him off so early in the series. Poor Louie.

Still, there arent' Lassie references while Louie is alive, either.

It never used to bother me, the repeated references to I Love Lucy, but now it bugs the hell out of me everytime. Oh well.

I've also noticed a lot of Fiddler on the Roof references. The kids seem unusually interested in it. ;D

A bunch of their families got together and went to see it in Stamford in "Keep Out Claudia". They apparently liked it enough to reference it all the time and convince the other neighborhood children that it was cool.
I remember when our marching band decided to do a "Fiddler" halftime show. Everyone complained.

^ The fact that they went to see it might explain the interest. ;D

I've been noticing Wizard of Oz references like crazy lately. Not just kids watching the movie, or even wanted to dress up as the characters for Halloween, but things like... "Aughhhhhhh!!!" she screamed, sounding like the Wicked Witch of the West as she's melting." Or Claudia's striped leggings sticking out from under the bed as she's digging for candy, looking like the witch that had the house fall on her... Mary Anne's comment in M#13 about the Tin Man saying "now I know I have a heart, because it's breaking." I know it's a movie that (virtually) everyone has seen... but I don't think I've ever heard it used quite so metaphorically outside of Stoneybrook.

I'm with you. I catch so many references when I'm rereading!
