^ I always noticed that peanut butter was a huge favorite in BSC books. I guess I could understand, because I love it as well! ;D

I wonder if they had Nutella in Stoneybrook... I can imagine that being a favourite.
I love the peanut butter and choc chips on crackers that Claudia eats in Crazy Peaches. That always sounded really yummy.

They never mentioned Nutella. Didn't they have that marshmallow fluff spread occasionally though? ITA about the peanut butter and choc chips, that sounds great.
Nice to read books that are happy to feature kids eating blatant junk food without any preaching (except from Dawn and her views were considered alternative).

I'm in the middle of a book where Claudia bought special whole wheat crackers for Dawn and Stacey. Now it's one thing to share the snacks that she would have bought anyway, but to go out and spend her own money on stuff that she'd never eat just so her lazy-ass friends could have a treat at the meetings is a bit much. Not that Claudia was ever smart about her junkfood. All those individually packaged ring-dings/twinkies/ho-hos are pretty expensive. You'd think she'd be informed enough to get the most possible for her money.

I thought it was a bit off that not one BSC member ever thought to contribute to the food supply. Providing food for seven people three times a week is a pretty big expense. Why didn't Stacey or Dawn (particularly Dawn, because eating the healthy stuff was her CHOICE) ever think to bring their own munchies? And why did the crackers and healthy stuff also have to be hidden? Wouldn't the Kishi's have any of that stuff in their pantry and couldn't Claudia have just offered them some from there?

Both excellent points.
I don't know why they always have to eat anyway. I know it's fun and all to hear about them eating junk every meeting and live vicariously. But they would never let their charges eat that close to dinner time. Double standards! Heh.

I seem to remember a book or two where Dawn or Stacey brings an apple to eat at the meeting. Maybe it made Claudia feel important to always provide the snacks since it was her "unofficial" duty and the only thing she ever did was answer the phone during non-meeting times. But the others still could have contributed to the supply so it wouldn't have to be all on her. (I think she bitches a lot about having no money in Stacey and the Missing Ring and I always thought, well, it's because you spend so much on junk food!)

I never thought about Claud providing all the snacks for everyone as a kid... it never bothered me that she did it. I always figured she'd have it all on hand anyway, so why not share? Although, you guys do bring up a good point about Stacey and Dawn. Claudia is a people-pleaser, though, so it's probably just easier for her to do the nice thing rather than confront them and demand a refund or something.

2 things: I hate, hate, hate vegetables and will rarely opt to eat a salad. But the salad that Claudia made after Janine won her stupid award always sounded so good. And pretty.
I also remember them talking alot about casseroles. I understand vaguely what a casserole is (no one I know has ever made one and offered me a taste), but they always sounded so disgusting to me. I'm not sure why.

Yeah, they seem to eat a lot of casseroles in Stoneybrook. There always seems to be one in the freezer for the girls (especially Mary Anne and Dawn) to pull out and pop into the oven before their parents get home from work.

She could not possibly have had enough food to feed seven people three times a week without making an extra effort. It never occurred to me as a kid either, though. Oh and don't forget the Stoneybrook community welcome wagon - someone always drops off a casserole when a new family moves in. Unless they're... ya know... BLACK

I remember Mallory's mom made Stacey and her mom a tuna casserole as welcome back present. To me, tuna casserole is that stereotypical crappy disgusting school lunch meal...so why did Stacey exclaim over it?
More on healthy food-- I love how a part of Dawn's reason to stay in CA (in Dawn on the Coast) was that they ate healthy foods. At the We Heart Kids Club they had what, apple slices, raw veggies and dip....this was significant in her decision making??

Given how OTT the BSC were in their exclamations of disgust when healthy food was served (EW!) maybe that's not so strange after all...

Seriously, how had would it have been to bring an apple or a plastic baggie full of carrot sticks over to Claudia's? I'm pretty sure they sell fresh produce all over the country, not just in California. Of course then Dawn would have to listen to Kristy act like a four year old with her "ew, an apple" rant. IMO Kristy was worse than Claudia, who was just pretty much like Cookie Monster with her "Me love junk food!" declarations.
