Bumbing this thread because there was talk of the Papadakis family. I just got a copy of Halloween parade (the kids in ms Coleman's class) and Hannie said her dad makes costumes and uniforms. I don't know if this is canon or not but...
Would that make them a lot of money to live next to the Brewers? Did one of the books mention that Mrs. P worked?

If he owned the company, sure. I don't recall if Mrs. Papadakis worked--I don't think so, but I bet that info would be in the books about Lou.

I know things like Hallowe'en costumes doesn't seem like something that could make a lot of money, but think of how popular Hallowe'en is. If his products were sold nation-wide it could be a pretty big money maker. Especially if he has a lot of vendors buying from him. I know his company makes those face glasses (Groucho Marx).

^I have the memory from a BSC book of Mr. Papadakis being in construction?

Yikes, years later lol. Anyway I was skimming through my copy of baby-sitters winter vacation and noticed that the entire school goes on this trip. And Claudia has her own set of ski's?! I know skiing is one expensive hobby so as said before Claudia's family isn't hurting by any means.
I think that there's three parts of stoneybrook right? Mostly middle class to super rich? Because there's that house the family inheirted in mystery 26 that's richer then Watson.

Watson definitely has competition from Stacey's dad. She mentions in Boy-Crazy Stacey that their apartment in NYC had four bedrooms and considering they lived in Manhattan, Ed must be making bank. Also after he downsizes after the divorce, I think he still has a two-bedroom for when Stacey visits and that's still really expensive in Manhattan. Didn't Stacey go to a private school in NYC with Laine?
Also, Watson's mansion must be massive if Kristy says her brothers could have their own suites of rooms and how they always happened to have so many spare bedrooms for friends and family to stay over. Abby I figured her family was well-off since they moved into Kristy's neighborhood and it sounds like her mom had a high-paying publishing job.

Intriguing, but I'm glad that they didn't really flaunt any wealth and I'm glad the BSC's parents didn't pamper them or shower them with endless luxuries.
The Sweet Valley series had most of their characters cardboard cutouts of spoiled rich girls and it grew tiresome.
And thank GOD the BSC series steered clear of the country club route!!!

The bsc did go a bit into the country club route, the greenbrook club springs to mind.
I kind of wish the parents did pay for some stuff they wanted. Like Karen needing a new bike or the BSC renewing their certifications or something. Just like stuff they need instead of just wanting.

The bsc did go a bit into the country club route, the greenbrook club springs to mind. Thank Heaven it was only a bit and not tok heavily like the Sweet Valley books did. I kind of wish the parents did pay for some stuff they wanted. Like Karen needing a new bike or the BSC renewing their certifications or something. Just like stuff they need instead of just wanting. I'm sure the parents paid for some things...but I am glad to see the BSC girls and even their charges earn some things for themselves. That was a large beauty of the series...girls who are resourceful and who work to earn things instead of having somebody else pay for everything. The BSC grew up to be the sort of independent young adults who would pay for at least part of their university tuition and who would be self-supporting by the time they graduated from their universities. None of the nonsense of having somebody else, especially some guy always coming to their rescue when things were tough and none of the helicopter parenting in Stoneybrook. 🙂🙂🙂💱💶💷📚

Greenbrook club was at least in two or three books I think. I mean I can totally see Sharon’s parents being the country club family for the most part. They probably even sent Sharon to a private school and everything.

They probably even sent Sharon to a private school and everything. Actually, Sharon went to Stoneybrook High, which is how she met Richard. And although Sharon's parents were well-to-do, they seemed sort of too down-to-Earth by the time we met them. The Porters' bickering was funny and they seemed to be unconventional and amusing, not stuffy. Anyway, two or three books out of over a hundred and thirty is miniscule. In the Sweet Valley series, almost every third book has some dance, party or event happening at the Sweet Valley Country Club and half of the families are country club regulars who flaunt their wealth. And some of the Sweet Valley country clubbers are openly snobbish about it. You never see that stupidity in Stoneybrook...Stoneybrook, despite being fairly prosperous, is more down-to-Earth and real.

Stoneybrook Academy is private and only grades k-6, she could still go to a private school and then SHS especially if it’s the only high school in the area. Granny and pop pop seem pretty snobbish in the past to me.
Never read read sweet valley to know about them, sorry.

Granny and Pop-Pop seem pretty snobbish in the past to me. Never read read Sweet Valley to know about them, sorry. Maybe in the past, Sharon's parents might have been rather snooty, but by the time of the series, they were not. They seemed warm and loving and were open to the rest of the BSC. I think there was a private high school in Stoneybrook that was seldom mentioned. Sharon might have gone to a private grammar school...hard to say. Leaf through a Sweet Valley High book and you'll get what I'm talking about. The Sweet Valley characters live in a small town in Southern Cali that's warm and sunny year-round and the characters are mostly rich, Anglo and never have pimples or oily hair, despite being teenagers and almost never have divorced parents or widowed mums. I laugh at that series mostly because also, most of the girls are paired off with boyfriends and many of the Sweet Valley characters are snobs.

The only private high school is SDS, the other ones are a bit farther out then stoneybrook. I still don’t really care for the Schafer family either way.

A bit, but not too far...well, Sharon's folks didn't put her there either. Either way, I was glad to see Mary Anne gain a stepmum and a stepsister her age in the series. Too many other 1980s and 1990s series had a widowed dad, but not enough widowed mums. It was a fun, neat storyline for both Mary Anne and Dawn for them to become stepsisters...that was almost like them being fraternal twin sisters!
