^I think Buddy and Nicky in one of the books where the kids come to MA's barn to work on presents of some kind, swing from the rope. Or maybe they just jump in the hayloft. As I type I'm remembering that Buddy (possibly) jumps on a hay covered Nicky....Charlotte spots a tiny mouse from far away?

^ I can't think of any specific cases where they rope was mentioned, but I'm almost sure it was referred to now and again.

I just re-read and dislike Dawn for a new (forgotten) reason. Much like in SS#1 when she taunts Kristy in front of Mr. Staples, referring to him as K's "boyfriend," in this one at lunch Dawn purposely says something nasty. Or wait, maybe Dawn just kept going on about Watson's house even when she saw that was bothering Kristy. I was also bothered by how Mary Anne asked Dawn what was wrong with Kristy, when K seemed upset on their walk home from school. It felt like MA, from this point on out, totally dismissed Kristy. On other, much lighter note, I realized that both Mr. Barrett and Buddy were named Hamilton. So when Marnie makes the "ham face" does that somehow relate to either her dad or brother?

I saw this a little differently. Dawn didn't know Kristy that well yet, and I'm not sure she was intentionally trying to upset her when she was talking about Watson's house and decorating a new bedroom. Didn't Dawn first ask about Andrew and Karen as a conversation starter and then it kind of segued into talking about the house? That's how I remember it, but I could be wrong. I haven't read it in a long time.
I remember Dawn later asking someone else why Kristy got so mad about the house talk and was told "She doesn't want to move," and Dawn seemed like she hadn't realized that.

I'm modifying this post after checking #5 to see what happened with Dawn/Kristy at lunch. It starts on Page 34 of the Original Cover edition. Kristy and Mary Anne take out their Pb &j lunches. Dawn comments that they bring that lunch every day it "must be the CT state lunch." She takes out her Tupperware containers of health food. Kristy asks what she (D) has for lunch. Dawn unwraps everything and tells her. Kristy and Miranda exchange looks." MA apparently witnessed this horrible behavior of K and M, but simply "shrugs" at Dawn. Dawn says "It's very healthy." K nods and says, "Your lunches always are. They're very, California, too."
Dawn "and yours are quite CT." And that, very bottom of page 34, is when Dawn decides "to change the subject. If Kristy wanted me to feel left out for some reason, I could do the same to her.I sighed dreamily."
Goes on to tell us about Richard and Sharon's date the night before. Miranda announces her realization that if R and S married, MA and D would become stepsisters.Apparently only Kristy was aware of this fact. Dawn tells "us" that because MA now had Dawn, MA didn't need Kristy so much anymore. Well said because there is no more friendship (for the most part) between MA/K. What really angers me as I've said is that Mary Anne does zilch to be a friend to Kristy and talk to her.
The walk home is on pages 39-41.

My favourite part of the book was when Dawn went to go feed Marnie a brownie and Mallory snatched it out of Marnie's fist and Dawn says:
"What do you think you're doing?" I said crossly. "You'll get a brownie in a minute, Mallory."
This ALWAYS makes me burst-out laughing because I picture Dawn saying it really snarky, like: WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING? You'll get a brownie in a minute, MALLOOOORY!"

I always imagined her to be talking to Mallory in the same tone she'd use with a toddler. Was Mallory still ten years old in this book, or had she reached the magical age of eleven?

^ Mallory does turn eleven since her birthday is May 2 and the book goes from April all the way to June.

Mallory is a Taurus!
She actually has the same birthday as my Maine Coon cat whose name is -- guess it -- MARGO!

I am really into astrology and I even have a blog about it. Funny you mentioned this because I have been seeing that article EVERYWHERE. In fact, two people messaged me this morning about it and two yesterday!

Too bad we never got to see Dawn eat one of those "divine smelling" brownies. I think early Dawn probably would have enjoyed.
