Or maybe it's not that difficult to do? I mean, do any of us have a ton of pets that we have to take care of?

It did sound to me as though the Mancusis had quite a menagerie of pets and their care would take a lot of time each day. Plus if any of them had to fed multiple times a day...perhaps the Mancusis were either retired or had limited job working hours and simply had time to care for their huge pet brood. :)But...I sure wouldn't want to live or pet sit there, not with snakes around and I still agree their house must have quite a strong pet odor.

^As David Michael might say, "Yick, Yick, Yick, Pew, Pew, Pew." He wrote a nasty poem of those words in KGI about acquiring another sister (Karen). The only mouse for me is Mickey, though I did love how much Bobby Gianelli cared for Henrietta, I believe her name was, in Science Fair (KIMCC book)

My folks have two cats and three dogs...one dog and cat are indoor pets. I'll definitely have to read this book while house and pet sitting for them in a couple of weeks

I have a friend who owns five cats and one dog, and she's told me how feeding all of them is a huge production, because several of the cats are old and have different meds they need to take with their food, and it all has to be prepared differently. Her husband was recently trying to convince her they should adopt a second dog and she said no way, we have enough animals for now!

When my sister and I lived together we had 3 cats collectively. One was a huge pig (if you remember Margo) and we had to feed her locked in the bathroom or another room because she'd eat the older cats' food after she gorged down her own. I thought that in itself was difficult a couple times a day. I can't imagine what the Mancusi family or your friend, candykane, had to go through.

I just reread quickly and forgot this story had some funny moments. I loved how Chewy joined the Mancusi dogs on their walk with Jessi, Claudia, Jamie, and Nina. All four dogs seemed happy to be walking and together. Made me wonder if the Perkins ever considered getting a second dog, maybe a little older one, as a friend for Chewy. I do remember that Myriah tells us (in Logan Likes MA) that her dad has said Chewy can be like three dogs, so maybe they don't need a fourth. Jamie is so cute and he sure did sound wound up with "Miss Mary Mack." It was also cool that Nina was the friend he invited over, someone different than the Perkins girls. Funniest and yickiest moment will always be MA and Jessi jumping on the chairs to as Myriah said, "escape Barney." I still would not have pet-sat for the Mancusis to begin with and one reason is definitely named Barney but that was so very funny and I would have done the same thing. At the end when Kristy promises to no longer ask the others if they have read the notebook, when do they read and/or better question, talk about their notebook entries? I think keeping a baby-sitting journal like that was a good and handy idea. I realize the girls probably shared with one another anything out of the ordinary before writing it down. It just seems strange that rarely if ever do we hear of one of the girls writing down something and then remembering to share it at a meeting. I still think from years ago that it would have been a lot easier if each member following a job, quickly wrote up anything that she felt should be shared with the others and then at the meeting added it to the notebook as it was brought up. That way, too, Kristy, who really was bossy in this one, could see that the info really was being relayed. Not one of my favorite books but it was different for a Jessi story.

I'm also a fan of the how Chewy joined in on the walk. I also remember they kept coming across things they thought would make the dogs go crazy (leaves blowing, a squirrel) but the dogs all behaved perfectly. Chewy should have had doggie playdates to burn off some of his energy. I used to have next-door neighbors who owned a cute energetic mutt, and I'd take my dog over to play with him all the time.

^That is really sweet that you did that, Candykane. I'm trying to think of other doggie friends for Chewy. Shannon for sure since she is a puppy and I'm not sure what type of dog/how old Bo Rodowsky is. Possibly Pow might be a little too old but he can come, too. I'll have to read "Karen's Gift," about Karen's dog walking adventures.

I enjoy that part of the book. Chewy, enjoying the walk with the other dogs.

Shannon would have been the perfect dog to play with Chewy because they both had tons of energy. How old was Chewy supposed to be? Was that ever mentioned? I thought in one book they might have said he was less than a year - at that age Labs seem to never, ever get tired. I know mine didn't.

^I'm not sure, it was mention, how old Chewy was. Maybe, someone else will know.

^Chewy is 8 months old. Myriah tells Mary Anne that on page 33 (new cover) Ghost at Dawn's House. I agree about Shannon and maybe Greta and Garbo the terrier puppies mentioned in Karen's Gift.
