^ ;D Some people do seem to be magnets for certain kinds of needy people. I think that Stacey and the rest of the BSC would be because they seem pretty compassionate and concerned with others. I actually see Stacey (when she's not trying so hard to be "cool") and Jessi as being the most so and Claudia as probably the least, but this might not be a fair assessment. MA is pretty compassionate, too, and Mallory and Dawn and Kristy in other ways - not so much in the "easy to talk to" way. (If this makes any sense) The thing I didn't like about this book (or didn't care much about) was the subplot. I didn't get why they were obsessed with the strawberries, though do admit that some of the chapters of the strawberry picking were kind of funny. Didn't they have some strawberry festival at the end? Was it for a charity or just to get rid of the berries?

I'm pretty sure the festival was just to get rid of the abundance of berries the kids felt the need to pick.

I liked this one a lot more than usual when I reread a few days ago. Stacey and Claud's outlook on life was just what I needed to read right then. I still don't like Robert but did feel for him - Stacey too. I was glad they had him talk to and get help from his coach instead of automatically sending him to a therapist because I can't stand the common assumption that going to a therapist will just make everything better. That isn't always the case and sometimes other people can be just as helpful if not even more helpful. Was glad they presented an alternative, especially since they are quick to send people to therapists in other BSC books.

Anyone notice the super-suspenseful cover line - "What's wrong with Robert?" Ooh - that sure lures me in! I haven't read this one yet. I can't find it anywhere.

^ ;D A lot of the cover lines are like that - very dramatic. ;D This was definitely not one of my favorites and in my opinion, not one of the better ones. It may be worth reading, though, if you can find it without too much trouble. (I'm on half.com right now for something else and just found it for $.75)

For someone with clinical depression with Robert, I don't see how talking to Coach could do much good. It is good that Stacey didn't try to solve robert's problem on her own and for once went to an adult, but I do think Robert needs some serious therapy.

^ Maybe but therapy doesn't help everyone. I just liked it that other alternatives were offered. People can get over clinical depression without drugs and talking to a professional therapist, contrary to popular beliefs. I'm not going to get into my views on this, though...... ;D I did like the description of the strawberry festival a lot more when I read it this time. Any excuse for a summer party seems good to me right now since it's getting so cold here. ;D

I know, he looks suicidal! Wasn't Robert 16? He had no business with a middle schooler in the first place.

^Robert was in the 8th grade too. He is Stacey's age.

Am I the only one who loves strawerries? Whenever my mom buys a carton i take a bunch out, dump sugar on them, and send myself for bliss.
Plot A wise, good idea, tepid execution.

I also dump sugar on them. It was my favorite dessert as a child.

^I just had strawberries the other night, my mom had some and we mixed it with a little cool whip and they were delicious.

^Ooh, that sounds good. I mentioned my craving yesterday, and today my roommate brought home strawberries from the grocery store. Sweet!
I reread just the strawberry parts of this book. I find it highly amusing that Kristy logs into a strawberry chat room and asks for ideas to prepare for her festival. It's awesome to see Internet references in these books because I'm just not used to seeing that.

Ever since I read this book I have been trying to understand what kind of weirdos construct and participate in a chatroom devoted entirely to strawberries. I imagine a guy like fanboy dude in the Simpsons.
