I really liked this book. There is much more knowledge around depression today and unfortunately more kids (and adults) seem to suffer from it because of technology. I would have thought eventually the coach would have spoken to the guidance counsellor and these days Robert would have been at the doctors. 13 is so young. His parents needed to know. Lots of good points in the story. There’s lots of people who take on others problems and it really overwhelms them but some seem to thrive on it. Stacey learnt a good lesson for herself. Sad too as I’ve seen lots of different people going through depression and had times myself personally. I suppose most of us do as we get older. The strawberries made me feel a bit ill but now I feel like eating strawberries dipped in chocolate. Yum. I liked the strawberry Chatroom part too. Internet nostalgia…like this board lol Stacey and Robert definitely seemed older in this one. I liked the dance at the end. And how they said they loved one another but not romantically (Stacey doesn’t have those feelings anymore anyway but who knows with Robert). What on earth is up with Ethan dating a 13 year old when he is 15? And long distance. I don’t know. You don’t think of that when you’re a kid. You just think wow Stacey is lucky to have a mature, older guy. I knew people who had worse age gaps in their teen years though.

First time reading this one. I had really low expectations, but I don't think it's that bad.
I like that the BSC tackled this subject and that it's not just a rando, it's happening to an established character. Overall, I think it was handled alright considering it's a late series book. I really wish that Mary Anne brought up Dr. Reese and don't know why she didn't. I'm glad that Stacey ended up talking to her mom about it (although Maureen really should've called the Brewsters immediately, especially after Robert showed up at their house at night) and that she found out it's something she alone can't help.
I do think the book needed to be longer to effectively tackle the issue of depression. Sometimes it felt so... simply written? It's hard to explain. Tbh, in the first half of the book, I wondered why Stacey was so invested in how Robert was doing. She basically set aside her English project for him (speaking of English projects, she's working on an autobiography. She also calls it a "self portrait" a few times. Do you think she was working on that project, or did she have to write another autobiography? This was published far after Stacey's Book was, so idk). I thought Patti was way out of line for blaming Stacey for his depression. I'm glad that Stacey did care, though, because he reached out to an adult.
Still weirded out that therapy wasn't mentioned. This book really missed the mark there.
The strawberry subplot was weird and unfitting. Also, I thought Abby was allergic to strawberries (maybe she didn't actually eat them and took Anna/ Rachel's word for it)? She's the one who brings them to the meeting in Chapter 2. I just don't see kids going this crazy over strawberries. Ofc there's a strawberry festival too. It's actually not awful to read about, just kind of random.
Better than I thought it would be... I think a 6.

I think a 6. I agree about the doctor / therapy /proper counselling part missing. Unless it was brought up in another book? Should have been brought up in this one. Stacey’s mum should have called the Brewsters about Robert out by himself at night. Unfortunately, this is realistic. Kids sneaking out and some parents not mentioning it to other parents definitely happens, although I don’t think it’s right either. Just an oversight. Adults/parents aren’t perfect though. I was confused with the timeline of Stacey writing her autobiography too! Haha! Time loop. 🤔 Yes, the strawberries were really over the top.

The strawberry picking plot was weird and I guess by now the ghostwriters were running out of ideas? I once went strawberry picking in New Zealand (Where I'm from) and got a nasty tick from it and never went again.

I went strawberry picking once. It was really fun, but they did start going bad right away. I've picked lots of other berries and fruits since then and everything has been much hardier than strawberries.
This time of year I love to go apple picking and picking pumpkins.
