This book makes me bawl my eyes out every time! Apart from that, I quite like this book. Stacey's handling of the snobs is always enjoyable.

this book is too hard to read. i don't think i've read this one, or claudia and the sad goodbye, more than just a couple times each.

I think it's interesting, in a good way, that Stacey was aware of Shakespeare and The taming of the Shrew. Does anyone who knows her Bard better than I do, recall how Katherine comes around in the play? I'm confusing it with Much Ado About Nothing!

Random thought as I get choked up (again) over Louie, do you guys think if Louie had not been ill and died that Shannon might have offerred the TB's the puppy anyway? Perhaps she and Kristy come to (somehow) bond over dogs or maybe Louie is "slowing down" a little bit, etc..just some less heartwrenching reason for the gift than death. I think such a scenario could have shown us why/how Kristy and Shannon became friends. Was it ever mentioned, btw, who Shannon's "two snob friends" were that attended Louie's funeral? I know they were probably the "bus stop snobs" but was wondering if they were ever specifically mentioned again like maybe one was Greer and the other...wasn't "Polly?" another Shannon friend or am I thinking of Polly's Fine Candy?

^ I think there was a Greer, a Polly, and a...Megan in Shannon's crew.

^Thanks Starrynight. I just checked out the beginning of Shannon's Story. On Pages 17-18 we are introduced to Greer Carson and Margaret (Meg) Jardin. I do think somewhere there was also a Polly.

I think they started to bond over Shannon's "pepperoni mountain dog" joke, so yeah, it doesn't seem too far-fetched. Meg, short for Margaret. ETA: Oops, I see you got to Meg/Margaret first

Greer CARSON? That had to have been intentional.

I never understood why "pepperoni mountain dog" was supposed to be so funny. I remember that they all started cracking up hysterically when it was said. Maybe they just started to laugh because the situation was so tense and they finally realized how ridiculous they were all being? I mean, they were about to start flinging hot slices of pizza at each other in the Delaneys' front hall. Right next to the three-thousand dollar fish fountain, no less!

Almost anything can be funny in that kind of tense situation.

Or, maybe they were all picturing the visual of what the dog would look like covered in pizza, and that image combined with the tension in the room made the whole thing funny.

I am re-reading and as usual feel so awful for Louie and DM.. Though I sincerely don't wish any harm to cats, even to the fictitious Tigger, he could have had a temporary minor cold or something. Maybe that would have brought Ma closer to Kristy if Tigger had been taking to Dr. Smith--Louie's vet. I'm editing this years later and Louie will furever be along with Mimi my very favorite series characters. As for the pets, Louie was more "real" than Tigger ever was, whether that is colored by my not liking cats (probably do some extent) I don't know. I will say that BooBoo was more interesting than Tigger, so was "Ghost Cat."
I also am angry at Karen in this. She was so annoying about the "RIP" and even to some extent about the funeral. This was not about her. :/ I now, having become a fan of most all of the LS stories, realize that Karen was probably just trying to find a way to help. I think in the BSC books her character is exaggerated in a not very kind way, much prefer her in the LS.

^ In Tigger's defense, the reason he didn't seem real was because he wasn't given a personality.
